Wedding Card for Really Reasonable Ribbon

When I think of weddings ~ ribbon, flowers and lace all come to mind, and I've used each of these Really Reasonable Ribbon products on this card. My mom asked me if I would make a card for the wedding of a special couple her and my dad will be attending. This is what I created:

Tips and Techniques:

I tied a double loop bow with the gorgeous Sheer Iridescent Champagne Ribbon. This is becoming one of my favorite ribbons to create soft bows to tuck into my flower clusters. Ginny's tutorial for the double loop bows can be found here. I also tucked in some of the sweet May Arts Pink Crochet Lace. I just adore the soft touch this lace provides!! 

Here's a side view of the lovely flowers and bow. Bonnie is now carrying a large selection of gorgeous Wild Orchid Crafts flowers in the RRR store. To see her entire selection of flowers, go here. I used the WOC Mulberry Paper 20mm Open Roses in Ivory/Pale Pink along with a Pale Pink Large Open Rose. The shabby edges are created with my Zutter Distrezz-it-All by Donna Salazar Designs. 

I also decorated the inside of the card by layering coordinating papers by s.e.i and tucking a piece of lace from the September Ribbon Club Assortment below the signature block. The sentiment is stamped and heat embossed on a coordinating sticker. I also heat embossed the "Love" sentiment on the card front.

"Cherish this Moment" Details ~ ScrapThat! March Kit

There is just something special about a dad and his daughter on her wedding day. This photo of Gary dancing with Elizabeth is so sweet. I love the way he whispered and talked with her during this special dance. 

The ScrapThat! March kit with these Meg's Garden papers was so wonderful to work with! Beautiful fussy cutting opportunities and such gorgeous flowers!!

Tips and Techniques:

Flower Cluster ~ The full brown roses and green open roses are included in the FAO kit while these fun prima gears are in the EAO. I added a few small roses cut from kit cardstock and Donna Salazar's Bitty Blossoms dies. The sweet yellow carnation used Donna's Carnation Creations dies. I added a Zva flourish from my stash that I cut apart and tucked here and there on the page. 

Fussy Cutting ~ There are so many fussy cutting opportunities with this gorgeous Meg's Garden Papers. From borders and frames to flowers and leaves.

Layering ~ I cut several strips of the striped papers for my layering. With the dark paper I distressed the edges and scratched the top with my Prima distress tool to soften the black. I then pleated it for extra dimension. The other layers were distressed and punched with kit pearls added to the punched strip. I topped the papers with the MK filmstrip which I only attached under the fussy cut flowers so it would lie loosely and ribbon-like. 

Distressing ~ I distressed all the edges and mats with my Donna Salazar Distrezz-It-All by Zutter. 

Title ~ I punched out the word Cherish with a circle punch. I punched a strip of scallops from some of the striped paper and cut each scallop apart. I adhered them around the circle, overlapping slightly to make the doily edge. I had a few extra crystals from my flourish, which I cut apart and placed around the edge. 

More Fussy Cutting ~ The sprays of little pink flowers were fussy cut and tucked into the cluster.

Handcrafted Flowers ~ The larger pink Full Open Rose was hand crafted using Donna Salazar Grand Peony and Bitty Blossoms. My tutorial can be found here. 

Dragonfly ~ This sweet little dragonfly by Gina's Designs is from my stash and so easy. I simply painted with rich, metallic Lumiere paints. 

Flower ~ Another of my Carnation Creations flowers close-up, and fussy cut leaves tucked into this peek-a-boo space at the edge of my paper.

Movin' On

I'm back to share the details of my personal favorite layout I created from the ScrapThat! March Kit. Normally my layouts evolve as I create them; however, for this one I had this fun idea pop into my mind. Amazingly, it came out just as I had envisioned. I've had this photo set aside to scrap for some time. It is an older photo of our daughter, Elizabeth taking a drive with her cousin, Tyler. We didn't have a battery operated car, so she was so thrilled with the ride, and I just adore Tyler's serious expression as he is trucking her on down the path.

Tips and Techniques:

Title Banner ~ I used my CTMH Artiste cartridge to cut the layered banner from the MK cardstock. I added eyelets from my stash to run the brown kit cording through. The letters are from the Basic Grey Alphas included in the kit. These little letters are just perfect and so versatile  I inked them just a bit to take the edge off the bright white, and they can be inked to any color to coordinate. I also inked the edges of the banner pieces. You will notice a flourish from my stash tucked into my flower cluster. I cut up the random extra crystals to embellish the banner. 

Eggshell Path ~ I was inspired by Gabrielle Pollacco's egg shell mosaic to create this little road. I cut a piece of cardstock into the shape of a curved path, then followed Gabby's great tutorial to apply and color the eggshells. At first I tried some small pebbles, but they were too large, and the eggshells worked perfectly.

Mixed Media ~ For this page, the pink flowers in the bottom right corner of the page didn't really fit my plans for the layout, so I used a credit card to apply gesso over them. It took two coats to completely cover, and I let the gesso dry between coats. I then spritzed with mists in green and brown. To get the inky drips. Spritz with mist, then a bit of water and tap the page to get the drips. Be sure to allow each color to dry before adding the next color. Heat set if you don't want to wait for them to air dry.  If your paper gets more warped than you like, mist the back of the warped section with a tiny bit of water, layer between paper towels and stack heavy books on top and let sit overnight. I usually put a large glass mat between the page and books to evenly distribute the weight. 

Bead Gel ~ After all my misting, I applied glass bead gel below the path using a stencil. I love how it picked up just a little golden hue from the mist I had applied to the page. 

Flowers ~ I just had to show you a couple different views of the flowers. The  pink roses are created with kit card stock and colored with Distress Ink. You can find my tutorial for the larger Full Open Rose created with Donna Salazar's Grand Peony and Bitty Blossoms dies here and the smaller rose is created with the largest of the Bitty Blossoms Dies. The yellow carnation is from her Carnation Creations die set. The gorgeous white blossoms, velvet leaves, and skeleton leaves are all in the Main Kit. 

Chipboard Sun ~ I used one of the flower chipboard pieces from the kit to create this sweet sun. Be sure to come back next Tuesday, March 12 for my tutorial. 

More Flowers ~ I want my layout to feel like Elizabeth and Tyler are driving on a path through a yard, so included these DA grass clusters with more of these sweet kit roses. A quick brush of paint colored the chippies. 

Nut Tree ~ I told some friends this was my insanity tree because I fussy cut an embossed image to create it. They told me I was nuts, so now I call it my "Nut" tree. I know, I know - there are plenty of cut files for leafy trees out there, but this Darice embossing folder tree was the perfect size and shape. I probably won't ever fussy cut another, but love this one for this page.

Sew Precious ~ Guest Designer for Colorful Creations

I'm guest designing this week for Colorful Creations. I was so excited when Tabitha invited me to design for them and absolutely delighted when I saw her fabulous sketch I'd be working with. Colorful Creations is a forum based community with a fun atmosphere and great challenges. I hope you'll check them out. 

Back when we lived in North Carolina, our daughters did quite a bit of sewing for their 4-H projects. This is Elizabeth's second year on stage at the Fashion Revue modeling this sweet jumper she made.

This wonderful sketch can be used for any scrapbooking style from CAS to urban grunge or like my page, shabby chic mixed media. Thanks for the inspiration, Tabitha!! This sketch challenge runs through January 27.

Tips and Techniques:

Handcrafted Flower ~ This sweet focal flower was created with Donna Salazar's Grand Peony and Bitty Blossoms Spellbinder dies. I love combining these two sets to create roses. The lace below is a vintage lace flower patch. The other lovely flowers are Prima.

Chipboard ~ I wanted a soft look with the chipboard, so I soaked the ends of these Dusty Attic pieces in some warm water for a few minutes and they separated beautifully. A little glimmer mist and they were perfect for this page. This won't work with all chipboard, but if the pieces are layered like DA, it's a lovely technique. I also tucked some Zva crystal flourishes around the chipboard. 

Fibers ~ The fibers here are some pulled apart yarn and some threads pulled off the edge of a fabric scrap. I pulled them through some Mod Podge and laid them around the clusters. In a few places where the fiber didn't stick to the page as well as I wanted I used some liquid glue to help hold it in place. 

Sewing elements ~ While I didn't want an over the top sewing themed page, I had fun tucking sewing related elements into the project such as this Prima zipper pull that I misted to age and the metal spool charm that I wrapped with fiber. 

Lettering ~ I die cut the SEW letters from a scrap of project paper and to get the metallic look, embossed them with some Fran-tage aged silver embossing powder. 

Mixed Media Background ~ Although this background took several steps, it was pretty easy. I applied gesso with a credit card, misted with glimmer mist, used a stencil to apply flexible modeling paste and once dry, misted again. On the left side I brushed on some opaque flakes medium. 

Alcohol Inked Charms ~ Momenta makes the cutest metal pieces and they can be easily altered to match any project by applying alcohol ink. For these flowers I put a couple drops of alcohol ink on my craft mat and used a small paint brush to apply. I use a felt applicator tool to apply the ink to the butterflies for a more mottled appearance. 

Mannequin ~ I left this Kaisercraft piece bare and just added a piece of Webster's Pages trim and vintage metal rose trinket with the feather cluster behind.

"Amore" ~ ScrapThat! Nov. Kit & BITW "Winter" Challenge

Hi everyone. I can't believe how fast November is flying by. Our US Thanksgiving is just over a week away, so it's time to be thankful for all the amazing people our Lord has brought into my life and the many blessings that have come my way. I hope that you have some wonderful blessings to reflect upon as well. 

Today I would like to share some close-up shots and details for this layout I created with the fabulous ScrapThat! November Kit, Flower Add-On Kit, and Embellishment Add-On Kit. Do you ever go back and tweak your layouts after you finish them? I don't tweak often, but if you notice a couple changes here from my previous blog hop/reveal post, you are quite astute. I misted the white kit flowers and tucked the door behind my banner. :-)

Our son and his lovely bride on their December 2011 wedding day during their private vows. Our son's vows were more like a book - three pages of them. I pray that he continues to treat Rachel like the precious gift she is for many years to come. 

"Amore"

The current Bird of the Word challenge is to use one or more of these words: winter, spring, summer, and/or fall. Under the key are the words "Winter Wedding." Joseph and Rachel were married in December with the church and reception decorated for their lovely winter wedding!! 

Techniques:

Fussy Cutting ~ The leafy vines and scalloped banner pieces were fussy cut from the gorgeous Bo Bunny Serenade papers. 

Pleated Ribbon ~ I pleated the length of white ribbon and adhered with bits of super sticky red backed tape. I used Hercules Tape, but any of the red backed varieties would work. I then cut out the solid center of the doily and adhered the pleated ribbon strip around the inside doily edge. 

Prima Door ~ No technique here, but what a great kit piece to work with!! I love how this looks next to the photo!! 

Handcrafted Flowers ~ I used a couple new dies for rolled flowers for the handcrafted flowers: Donna Salazar's Spellbinder Bitty Blossoms, and the Tim Holz Sizzix Tattered Pinecone - which also makes a wonderful rose. I inked the edges before rolling and forming the flowers. 

Distress Stickles ~ I fussy cut this dragonfly, then painted distress stickles across the wings and body. A couple mini rhinestones were alcohol inked for the eyes. I love using EK Success Honey Bee scissors for my fussy cutting. 

Misting ~ I used the remainder of my white kit flowers, but they stuck out a bit much among the yellow/brown flowers, so a couple of quick spritzes with some brown glimmer mist, was the perfect remedy. Aren't these crystal encrusted prima leaves gorgeous!! No need to mist these beauties.  

Inking ~ The yellow Bo Bunny Serenade paper was quite bright, so I toned it down by applying some burlap Distress Ink. 

Modeling Paste ~ There are so many fun things you can do with modeling paste!! Here I used it with a stencil to create my title. 

Alcohol Ink ~ The little metal dragonfly was an antiqued metal piece in my stash. I used a paint brush to apply some orange alcohol ink to the wings and brown on the body. 

Flourishes ~ This was an easy way to bring some weight to my smaller title. The paper flourish was die cut and a similar Zva Creative pearl flourish placed over the paper one. 

Distressing ~ Of course I used my handy Donna Salazar Distrezz-It-All by Zutter to distress all the straight edges!!

Dick ~ Word Art Wednesday GDT Reveal

My thoughts and prayers are with those in the areas affected by Sandy. Although we had high winds for a day or so and prepared for the worst, we were fortunate not to lose power. 

This is my final project as a Guest Designer for Word Art Wednesday. It has been a delight to word with the Amazing Word Art this month.

This week's Word Art is based on Hebrews 4:16 ~ "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." One of the very special people the Lord brought into our lives is Dick Edwards. He worked with my husband back in the 80's. Gary was instrumental in helping him get into alcohol rehab. After completing rehab, he became like a part of our family, even celebrating birthdays and holidays with us. We have so many special memories of special times spent with Dick. I am so grateful that the Lord gave us the privilege of having Dick in our lives until his death a couple years ago and allowed us with grace to help in a time of need in his life.

Techniques:

Word Art ~ I printed this week's word art on some lightly patterned paper, then inked over it to bring in the color of my background paper before distressing. I inked first, then distressed to keep the white edges. 

Stitching ~ I stitched randomly here and there on this page including this stitching above the word art, several rows below my title and some fun x's on the side of my corrugated board

Handcrafted Flowers ~ I created several of the flowers including the blue one here and off white one in the photo below using my new Bitty Blossom dies by Donna Salazar. The leaves were also cut using Bitty Blossoms. I created the blue flower below using Donna's Grand Peony dies and added a jewel brad to the center. The rest of my flowers are an assortment from Petaloo and May Arts.

Layering ~ Under the photo I used a number of distressed layers including patterned papers, Donna Salazar's Corrugated Board by Zutter, vintage dictionary page -torn and inked, burlap, and cheese cloth. Distressing was done with my Distrezz-It-All. I just don't know what I would do without this handy little distressing machine these days!! :-)

Gears ~ These Donna Salazar Want2Scrap gears were so much fun to work with. I inked them with Donna's Mix'd Media Inx in Patina - I just dabbed it randomly, not covering the entire gear, I then dabbed some Ranger Paint Dabbers in copper. I used my heat tool close over the paint until it bubbled up, then did the same with the gold Paint Dabber. 

Corrugated Board ~ The photos don't do justice to the distressing on the corrugated board. Of course the first thing I did was run the edges through my Distrzz-It-All. Then the ridges and edges were painted with a mix of metallic green and black paint. Once that was dry, I coated with Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint which gave a shiny crackled finish. Finally I added some fun stitching. 

Heat Embossing ~ next to the matted photo I stamped Donna's Lace Corner image using her Mix'd Media Inx in Jasmine, and embossed using seafoam white embossing powder. 

Pearl Flourishes ~ You can get a lot of mileage out of your flourishes by cutting them apart to use on different parts of your page like I did with this sweet Zva Creations flourish. 

Paint Splatter ~ In the top corner, I used a stiff paint brush to splatter some metallic paint behind my title for a bit of extra texture and dimension.

Birthday Card for Bo Bunny Sketch Challenge/Donna Salazar Sept. Challenge

This is a busy month at the Sabella household with Elizabeth and Andrew's wedding just a month away now. I'm busy arranging bouquets for Elizabeth and the bridesmaids with some advice from the floral designers at my favorite craft store. Her wedding shower is coming up Monday, and I just finished creating their wedding card, but that is for an upcoming assignment and won't be posted for a while yet. 

The card challenge at Bo Bunny this month is a gorgeous sketch by my talented friend, Juliana Michaels. I couldn't wait to create a card with it. Elizabeth will be having a birthday later next month, and I knew right away that this sketch would be great for a feminine shabby chic card to celebrate her special day.

I used Donna Salazar's Rose Creation Dies to create these lovely roses and leaves. Her challenge this month is to create a gift for a special person.

I was so excited to find that my "Peaceful Day at the Sea" layout was named as a winner at Catered Crop. As a result, I was invited to be a guest designer in Sunday's Quickfire by creating a project for the current In the Pink Recipe Swap to use pink on your paper craft project. Techniques:

Handcrafted Flowers ~ I wanted to showcase this fabulous Bo Bunny paper, so rather than using pre-made flowers I cut these using my Donna Salazar Rose Creation Dies. I love how Bo Bunny papers can be mixed and matched from different lines. I used two older papers for my flowers that coordinated perfectly with the Abrosia card base. For a little shimmer, I brushed on some Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear Adhesive and sprinkled on Crystal Glitter Ritz Micro Fine Glitter.

Turning 50 ~ Donna Salazar Sketch Challenge

I had a lovely outing with my husband this afternoon. Last winter he bought a convertible that he calls his "mid-life crisis" car. :-) It was a wonderful day for a drive. I even got to do a little shopping at the new Michaels that just opened up. How nice to have one a mere 30 minutes away. I hope you are having a lovely weekend as well. 

Back in June we had a birthday for my sister, celebrating 50 years. This shot of her with our nieces is so sweet. My sister is such a blessing to me. She is such a strong woman whom I admire so much. 

I used the Donna Salazar August challenge sketch by the talented Mistra with lots of Donna's amazing products. These Donna Salazar papers were so perfect to pick up the colors in the photo.

I included a butterfly on this layout to participate in the "Wings" Challenge over at Berry71Bleu. Such a lovely site!! This is my first time entering one of their challenges. 

Techniques:

Handcrafted Flowers ~ For the larger focal flower, I used the DSD Grand Peony Die and for the medium roses, small roses, and leaves I used her Rose Creation Dies. I used one of Donna's favorite adhesives, Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear Glue on each of the petals and while wet dipped the flowers into diamond dust for lots of sparkle. 

Crystal Flourishes ~ all of the flourishes on my page were cut from a single Zva flourish. One flourish can go a long way if you are willing to cut it apart. I still have the butterfly portion with a trail left for yet another project. 

Painted, Misted paper ~ I dry brushed nearly everything on this page with some antique white acrylic paint. The circle behind my flower cluster had a lovely light grey flower design on it. I proceded to write my journaling there. To make a long story short, it didn't work. I painted over the journaling and it took about 8 or 10 layers before it stopped showing through. I then inked over the paint, and that wasn't working for me either. So not one to give up, I started misting. The paint acts kind of like a resist, so the mist settled into the paint brush marks. I just kept spritzing different colors until I got a color combo that worked. I had a pitiful sopping piece of paper on my hands. I kind of liked the look, but was sure the paper was ruined by this point. I let it dry over night, and it was dry by morning, but oh so wrinkly. I spritzed it lightly on the back put it between some paper towels with several heavy books on top. The result was a perfectly flat circle with color and texture that was perfect for my page. Yay!! I just adore happy accidents. 

Corrugated Board Liner Butterfly ~ I mentioned in a previous post that when I use Donna's corrugated board to die cut my corrugated butterflies, it comes off in one neat piece. Oh yes, I've been saving these gems, and here is one all dressed up. I inked the rough side of the paper with several shades of distress ink, until I achieved a color that coordinated with my page, then coated it with a thick layer of Ranger Clear Rock Candy Distress Paint and set it aside to dry. To add a bit more dimension, I rubbed more ink into the fabulous cracks that appeared when the paint dried. I curled it over a paint brush and added some extra flourish gems to the body along with flower stamen antennae. My good friend, Juliana Michaels, tried out my corrugated butterflies and added the crackle paint. Her creative approach  gave me the idea to try the crackle out here. 

Stamping ~ I wanted just a little more visual texture and weight next to my butterfly, so used Donna's Lace Corner Stamp here. 

Distrezzing ~ I distressed all the straight edges with my Distrezz-It-All. It's even is even a breeze to Distrezz corrugated board in seconds. 

Hand Stitching ~ I penciled in swirled lines, then punched holes for my hand stitching. This time with 2 strands of DMC floss for the swirled lines and 4 strands for the straight lines. 

Ripped Edge ~ I've seen and admired these ripped edges tucked with embellies for years, but had never tried it myself until now. I tucked one of my handcrafted roses into the opening. The back of the paper clashed with my layout, so I dry brushed it with some antique white paint. 

Stickle Accents ~ It's hard to see in the photos but the two vertical mats have sweet flourishes that I painted with Crystal Stickles for a lovely shimmer that's oh so girlie in person.

Rhinestone Accents ~ I had a couple little segments of my flourish left over and pulled the tiny rhinestones off to add them to the center of my lace scallops on the left. I used larger rhinestones from my stash to embellish the other lace piece.
