"The Adventure Begins" Mixed Media Card for Studio75

Welcome to my creative space!

Today I have a sweet card to share with you featuring the fabulous Studio75 Berry Copse paper collection along with beautiful chipboard from the store.

The current Studio75 challenge is to create something for Mother's Day. Our daughter and her husband had their first child, a little boy, two month's ago. Being a mom is such a wonderful experience that I thought this sentiment that says "and so the adventure begins" would be perfect for this card that I created to celebrate her very first Mother's Day.

Tips and Techniques

The papers from the Berry Copse collection have such gorgeous, rich colors and designs as seen in this beautiful green background paper. I added a leaf design stenciled with molding paste and stamped opposite corners with an Agateria grille stamp from the store.

I combined succulents, burlap flowers and dimensional flowers from Little Birdie Crafts at A.C. Moore to create a focal cluster. I heat embossed Scrapiniec Confetti Chipboard Hearts and Artistico HDF Cogs with Stampendous Shabby White Embossing Enamel as well as a Finnabair Mechanicals metal gear and tucked them in around the edges of the cluster.

For added interest, I tucked in a few Pistachio Stamen and then filled in with some green US ArtQuest Prills adhered with Bambino Glue. Don't you think this sentiment is just perfect for a first Mother's Day?

I simply adore that each and every Studio75 paper collection includes such gorgeous images to fussy cut. These leaves and berries are found on the 03/04 paper strip. 

The burlap flowers are lightly dry brushed with white gesso for a softer look.

More fussy cutting. You can also see that I tucked in a pearl and several sparkling FinnaBair Sugar Art Pebbles. The background is stenciled with Finnabair Paper Texture Paste using this TCW Mini Jungle Vines Stencil designed by Gabrielle Pollacco.

And one final close-up of the cog. I recently added a few bee charms to my stash and couldn't resist adding them here. They are silver, but I rubbed gold art wax over them so they would better coordinate with the other elements.

Mixed Media Art Brush with Silk Foam Flower for Scrap & Craft

Welcome to my creative space!

I've been seeing so many gorgeous mixed media altered paint brushes, that I just had to create one for myself. This started with an inexpensive 3-inch brush with a wooden handle. The handcrafted flowers is my first with Silk Foam from the Scrap & Craft Store. The gorgeous chipboard pieces are also from the store. Tips and Techniques

This handcrafted flower is created with Silk Foam, shaped with the Metal Ball Tool Set, and colored with Distress Oxide inks. The white Mini Stamen are also from the store. 

I don't think I'll be using Distress Oxides to color Foamiran or Silk Foam again even though I adore the colors. Since it is a more permanent ink, my hands were stained for days. :D 

 

The Anemone Fabian Ornaments Chipboard and Artistiko Cog from the Scrap & Craft store are heat embossed with pale gold embossing powder.

The wings are created with Prima Paper Clay in the Prima Wings & Locket Mould, set aside overnight to dry, then brushed with Finnabair's Sparks paint and Wax. Finnabair's metal "Art" piece is also brushed with Sparks Paint and wax. The brush has several layers of Finnabair's Impasto Paints and Sparks Paints along with gesso then finished off with a light brushing of her gold wax.

I used Bambino Glue from the store to adhere Finnabair's Regular and Mini Art Stones around the cluster. I thinned some of the Sparks Paint to brush over the Art Stones, then a light brushing with the gold wax to highlight the texture.

 

 This gorgeous Misz Masz Chipboard Butterfly is brushed with Sparks Paint and the edges with gold art wax. Bambino Glue is a great way to adhere microbeads for a textured body.

The handle of the brush is stenciled with Finnabair's Light Paste. The decorative metal piece is painted and waxed like the rest of the brush and centered with a coordinating rhinestone from my stash.

"Dream of Being More" Mixed Media Graduation Card/Home Decor for Scrap & Craft

Welcome to my creative space!

Today I'm sharing a two in one shabby mixed media piece. It's an oversized mixed media graduation card, reinforced with an extra layer of 110lb cardstock so it can be placed on an easel to brighten up a mantel or desk. Rather than using a congratulations or graduation sentiment on the front, I stamped this inspirational sentiment that is perfect for a home decor piece as well as an encouragement to the graduate.

Tips and Techniques

The sweet floral cluster includes Magnolia Flowers, and Pale Pink Mulberry Roses from the Scrap & Craft Store. The gorgeous background paper is from the Craft O'Clock ~ Morning Dreams II Paper Collection. I also fussy cut flower images from the collection to layer under the cluster. The background and borders are stamped with Grille and Grille 3 Stamps from the store. I added a touch of teal color with PanPastels around the edges as well.

Bambino Glue dries clear and is just perfect for adhering texture with Prills and microbeads along with sequins, half pearls, and flakes of teal mica scattered onto the background.

From this angle you can see Pearl Stamens from the store that I tucked in under the rosebuds. I just adore the chipboard from Scrapiniec's Doily Lace Corner Set that I heat embossed in teal, then topped with another layer of blue glittered embossing powder. 

I collect odds and ends to use in my paper crafting from a variety of different sources. The decorative crystal and pearl stick pin is for wedding decor. I also tucked in a couple seashells I found at the shore on one of our vacations as well as a few flowers from my stash. A while back I crocheted some sweet little flowers and came across them recently. I couldn't resist adding one at the edge of the paper flowers.

The sentiment is stamped with Versafine black ink onto watercolor paper. Once dry, I spritzed with water and brushed with M. Graham watercolors, then tore around the words to expose the creamy white paper edges. Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Foam Squares are used to raise up the sentiment so it sits nicely over the twine wrapped around the card.

I used Finnabair's Light Molding Paste with the Studio75 Small Brick Stencil to add texture and when dry spritzed with Lindy's Gang Starburst Mist, then spattered with white ink.

I got artsy with these sweet summery dragonflies. They're stamped the dragonfly image from Prima's Stamp-N-Add Butterfly Wings Stamps onto watercolor paper, then colored with blue and teal watercolors. It was a bit of extra work to fussy cut them, but well worth the effort! I wanted something shimmery, so added teal seed beads to the long slender bodies with Bambino Glue.

Precious Moments Forever Mixed Media Card for ScrapBerry's

My dear sister lost her beloved kitty recently. She had Trixie for 18 years, and she was a special part of her family. I created this special sympathy card for her featuring ScrapBerry's A Furry Little Story Collection. The tiger striped kitten looks just like Trixie and so perfect for this card.

Close-Ups

This sweet cluster includes ScrapBerry's Peach Gardenia, Blue & White Cherry Blossoms, Skeleton Leaves, Flair Button, Winds of Travel Clock, White Shabby Ribbon which I colored, and a sentiment stamped with the Elegy Precious Moments set.

Of course I had to add mixed media textures. I used the gorgeous Art Anthology Keyhole Stencil with Prima Light Paste to create texture, then added colors pulled from the sweet pillow and crown using Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Mists. Microbeads, Prills, and Mica Flakes are added around the cluster for additional texture.

The kitten looks like she is playfully batting at something, so I added this Elegy Polymer Butterfly which I colored with several shades of creamy Prima Finnabair art wax.

Here's a little tip. I always brush my background papers with clear gesso - mostly to reduce warping. Here's another great benefit. When spritzing color mist, I covered the little kitty in teal. Not a great color for a cat, but since I had brushed over her with clear gesso, I was able to use a damp paper towel to dab off all of the teal color to save my project.

"You + Me" Grungy Mixed Media Valentine for ScrapBerry's

I have a new ScrapBerry's project to share with you. Valentine's Day is just around the corner. I don't know about you, but my husband isn't into girly pink hearts, so I really enjoy coming up with ideas on how to show my love with a more grungy look. Here's my Valentine card for him featuring ScrapBerry's fabulously masculine Adventure Awaits and Words Live Forever Collections. I've also used ScrapBerry's gorgeous Silver Wings and a polymer heart from the Vintage Circus Collection.

Close-Ups

The background is a sheet from the 6x6" Adventure Awaits collection. The Memos page from the Words Live Forever collections has wonderful vintage paper pieces along with the  clock that I cut out and layered in the center of the card. The edges are inked to give a grungy vintage feel. The Vintage Circus Polymer Heart was brushed with black gesso, then texture added with Prima Mini Art Stones in soft matte gel.

The ScrapBerry's Metal Wings are a focal point centered with a corrugated heart in theme with Valentine's Day. I have quite a collection of gears and masculine embellishments. I have a pulled an assortment of gears, and assorted pieces to arrange around the heart and sentiment. Before adhering, I painted everything with black gesso. Once the elements were in place, I brushed with Prima Rust and Patina Effect Paste, then rubbed with several colors of Prima art wax to bring out the amazing textures. Around the edges I've added texture with Prima Art Stones, mica flakes, and Prima microbeads.

I simply adore the woodgrain and gear images on the background paper.

It makes my day when I find an old rusty washer laying on the ground. My dear friend Valerie mentioned my obsession with rusty washers to her husband, and he now collects them for me as well. This washer is one of those sweet finds.

Valentine Mixed Media Artist Trading Cards for ScrapBerry's

Welcome to my creative space!

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, so for my first ScrapBerry's project of 2018, I created three sweet Valentine themed artist trading cards featuring the gorgeous Cherished Jewels Collection with colors that are just perfect for this sweet holiday.

Close-Ups

I trimmed down one of the cards from the Tags Romance & Tiaras page to fit this ATC and adhered it to the card with 3D matte gel. I added a layer of crackle to the corners. Once the crackle was dry, I stamped a flourish with the Elegy clear stamp set in coordinating permanent ink. The texture is spritzed with a color spray to highlight the crackle, then rubbed with several colors of wax. The cluster features a ScrapBerry's Clove Lilac Paper Flower highlighted with gold wax and a Wedding Resin Chrysanthemum.

I cut two ACT sized pieces from one of the 6x6" papers to create this and the next cards. I spread the crackle paste around the design elements on the paper, allowing them to show through. I found the delicate heart chipboard at Michaels and covered it with Stampendous Shabby Pink Embossing Enamel. The gold and glitter in this enamel pair so perfectly with the rest of the card. 

I picked a couple sentiments from the Tim Holtz Small Talk sentiment collection and rubbed them with waxes to distress and color. A few white Prills around the hearts finish off these mixed media Valentines.

Autumn Mixed Media Cards and PROCESS VIDEO TUTORIAL with Scraps of Elegance September Kit

Welcome to my creative space!

Today I'm sharing a set of autumn mixed media cards and process video tutorial created with the gorgeous "Falling Leaves" Scraps of Elegance September Kit. This kit is just amazing to work with. I have several fun techniques using the Creativity Add On to share with you in the video. 

Although I've used the same paper and similar embellishments, these cards have different looks. The card on the left is showcased in the video and is a Thanksgiving card for our son and his wife. Rachel loves to decorate for each season, and this will be a keepsake she can set out each fall. The card on the right is for our daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband who celebrate their five year anniversary this month. The printed chipboard, diecuts, and word stickers worked together so perfectly for this autumn anniversary card.
