"Flower Girl" details for ScrapThat!

You may remember another flower girl page with my sweet niece, Abby. She was the flower girl in Joseph's wedding and again here for Elizabeth. It is obvious by her charming smile that she greatly enjoyed the honor!!

I used the April ScrapThat! Kit featuring Donna Salazar's Natural Beauty Collection and add-on kits to created this page.

Tips and Techniques:

Handcrafted Flowers ~ The two flowers in the top left of cluster were created using thick mulberry paper and Donna Salazar's Grand Peony and Bitty Blossoms dies. It's hard to see here, but the larger of the two also is edged with white puffy paint for added texture and dimension.

Kit flowers ~ The FAO is loaded with gorgeous flowers. The large focal flower is by Petaloo and the canvas flower is Prima. The tiny white roses are in the main kit. The main kit leaves were gold and green which didn't quite work with the colors on this page, so I painted them with gesso, stamped with a large font script, then inked the veins and edges. I also tucked in one of the EAO metal roses. The flourish is from my stash.

Fussy Cutting ~ I fussy cut the bird and cage to tuck into my cluster.

Flowers ~ More of my Bitty Blossoms mulberry paper flowers and little white MK roses. The larger rose here is by Zva and in the MK. 

Chipboard ~ This gorgeous Fabscrap sign is included in the MK. The post was painted with a thick coat of antique gold metallic paint. While still wet, I used my heat tool to bubble the paint to achieve this lovely texture. I also rubbed on a little black soot distress ink to highlight the texture. The sign piece was painted. When dry, I inked the edges then covered with Crackle Accents. (Crackle Accents acts as a resist, so ink first, then cover with this medium.) I allowed the sign to dry overnight, allowing these lovely cracks to form. The title letters were cut using my Tim Holtz Typeset die and a scrap of kit paper. I inked the edges to help them pop.

Distressing ~ I used my all time favorite scrapbooking tool, my Donna Salazar Distrezz-It-All. I love how quick it is to get this lovely distressing on my straight edges!! 

Stenciling ~ I stenciled this flower using my Plaid Summer Floral stencil and Golden Light Molding Paste. I have found that my local craft stores carry quite a selection of beautiful stencils in their paint department, so if this is a technique you've been wanting to try check out your paint department for stencils. When using molding or texture paste, it is important to used "flexible" texture paste or "light molding paste. Paper has a lot of give and the regular versions of these mediums can crack on paper. (Ask me how I know. lol) I also used my Donna Salazar Houndstooth stencil along the bottom of the page. After the molding paste dried, I spritzed with Tattered Angels Moonlight Glimmer Mist and just a little water, then held the paper up and tapped it to achieve the drips. 

Corded frame ~ I just adore the cording in the MK. It is not regular Jute, but covered in a soft, natural wrapping and it looks solid rather than twisted. It looped beautifully for my photo frame. I got a little happy with the glue and it was visible in a couple places, so I added a few of the little MK white roses in strategic places. 

Punched Doily ~ It was so easy to create my blue punched doily. I cut a circle from the kit paper, then used my Martha Stewart French Scroll punch on the edges. Leave the side wings closed for this technique and turn the punch upside down so you can see the design as you are punching. Make your first punch, then line up the next cut with the edge of the punch just barely touching the previous cut and make sure the top of the punch is even with the edge of your circle. Most likely your punches with not match up when you get back to the first punch, but that is OK since part of the doily edge is under the flower clusters. I put one of the tiny MK pearls in the center of each visible scallop. The layered white doilies are from my personal stash. 

Peek-A-Boo ~ I wet the edge of the paper and pushed it up. Once dry, I decorated it with more of these sweet MK roses and the EAO Maya Road Metal Roses. Some of the metal roses were a little squished in the package, but easily reshaped to form these little beauties.

"Best of Days" and "Hope Is the Thing" Guest Designer for Zeus and Zoe

I was so excited when Marivic invited me to be Zeus and Zoe's first Guest Designer. It was delightful to create with the amazing package of gorgeous trims, embellishments and paper crafting products from her Zeus and Zoe Etsy Shop. If you haven't been to Marivic's Etsy shop, you are missing out. Because of the nature of her products including vintage finds, her inventory changes and is and a place to frequent so you don't miss out!! 

My first project to share with you is for the Zeus and Zoe April challenge, "Life as it Is Now," about me as an individual. One more thing - buttons are a requirement. "Best of Days"

I used the April OUAS Sketch:

The journaling theme this month at Once Upon A Sketch is "Best Day of Your Life." I've had many best days and certainly Elizabeth and Andrew's wedding was one of those days. We've been praying for Elizabeth's future husband forever and to see her marry a Godly young man, the man of her dreams was one of those best days. To see such a wonderful answer to our years of prayer makes it a special day indeed.

It's also a special day because it represents where I'm at today in my life. My roles have changed dramatically over the past couple years. I home educated for 19 years until our youngest entered our local high school for her final two years ~ she graduates next month. Our children are stepping out and creating lives of their own. Although it hasn't always been easy, I've chosen to embrace the change. No moping empty nester here. I've hand written my thoughts about this day and these changes on a tag attached to the back of my layout. The photo was taken at our daughter's wedding last October, and the butterflies represent the wings of change.

A package of Prima Ruby Violet trinkets including a flower was included in my package. The star, focal flower of this layout was created by pulling that flower apart. I painted the fabric portion and tucked a smaller Prima flower into the center. I rubbed with distress ink to achieve the vintage look. I placed Zeus and Zoe buttons here and there into my clusters. The other smaller flowers are from my stash. 

Moving to the other corner of the photo you can see the fabulous battenburg lace doily is the one thing I left untouched, allowing this gorgeous white lace to frame my photo. One of my goodies was a selection of vintage lace pieces. These two sweet butterflies were bright orange. I simply gessoed and inked them and adore how sweet they look "fluttering" on both ends of this cluster. The background leaves were stenciled using molding paste tinted with Lumiere paint and a Dylusions stencil. 

When I saw this gorgeous medallion, it begged a prominent place on my page. Of course I did a bit of altering. It started out with a glittery hot pink resin center and coordinating heart dangle. I adored the large clear crystal and left it in place. The heart was replaced with the butterfly while the center was painted with Lumiere paint and dotted with little beads from my stash. 

I happened to have a perfect stencil in my stash used to add molding paste behind the medallion. Once dry, I misted with the Lindsy's Stamp Gang Aloha Avocado mist from Zeus and Zoe. I let it pool and drip down the page. Finally, I inked the molding paste with distress inks for more depth. 

Aren't these lace pieces simply gorgeous?? They started life in bold bright colors which masked the gorgeous design. A couple coats of gesso and some inking brought out their amazing beauty. I also touched the brown lace and daisy with a bit of gesso. The little metal butterfly beads were alcohol inked with several shades of green and gold. The two chipboard butterflies are from my stash and brushed with Lumiere paints.

My second project to share with you is a card I created for my sister. She has been dreaming of owning her own home and has held on to her hope and faith as she saw several deals fall through after being told her offers had been accepted. This time it looks like the deal will go through and this will be the card included with her house warming gift.

Close-Ups:

I deconstructed the May Arts Velvet Ribbon with Crochet Lace. The velvet created a gorgeous base for my layered flower, and the lace looks so pretty here. The pink resin rose and chandelier beads came glued and wired together as a single flower. Now separated, I used the wire to attach and dangle the beads and placed the resin piece in my flower cluster after highlighting the edges with a bit of metallic brown paint.

This view shows off the gorgeous lace flower. In addition to the gesso and inking, I added some sparkly seed beads to the center.

The gold cording had been woven into a lace with blue sequins. You guessed it. I pulled it apart and tied on these sweet tree charms that I altered by dabbing on brown metallic paint. The daisy stick pin was also dabbed with paint. The layered flower was created with a variety of Zeus and Zoe pieces - all but the inked paper daisy layer.

My package included this fabulous TPC Vintage Birdcage stamp set. The sentiment couldn't be more perfect to describe the enduring hope my sister has embraced on this journey to find a home. I used Truffle Mix'd Media Inx to stamp and heat emboss with clear embossing powder, then fussy cut around the image. I colored by spritzing with the Lindsy's Stamp Gang mist and a bit of distress ink on the edges. The bird and cage were also part of this set. I stamped and heat embossed these images onto watercolor paper then lightly inked over the white background and fussy cut.

Nearly all the products used on this card are from Zeus and Zoe, such a great source of gorgeous and unique products!

"Adventure" SEM April Main Challenge #27 ~ All God's Creatures

I hope you had a wonderful Easter! We went to church then had all the family over for some homemade lasagne and a time of sweet family fellowship.

It's the first Monday of the month and that means it's time to share the Scrapping Everyday Miracles Main Challenge. Nicole is hosting a wonderful challenge for you this month. Here are the details:

SEM Challenge #27 ~ All God's Creatures

For this month's main challenge we would like you to create a project inspired by your pets.  Even if you arent animal person or don't have any pets you can still be inspired by this challenge.  You can create a project inspired by any animal in God's creation. Your projects can even be about an animal related experience like a day at the zoo or a farm. What is important is that we see that God is blessing us with everyday miracles using both the animals within our families and those outside our homes.  

SCRAP TWIST: USE AN ANIMAL RELATED QUOTE SAYING OR EVEN BIBLE VERSE ON YOUR PROJECT.   You can use it for your title, journaling or just addition to your project! Just to help you get started here's a link to a bunch of animal quotes :

Here is my project based on this challenge:

"Adventure"

My husband and I never had a dog. or even discussed the possibility of getting one. Then we moved back to Ohio in 2000 to be closer to our families. My brother taught dog obedience classes including a dog 4-H club. He also did a little breeding. He decided to keep one of the pups as an experiment. He often had clients bring in 2 or 3 year old dogs with no former obedience training, and these dogs were more of a challenge. So he decided to keep Ellie. While he didn't allow her to jump on people, she had no obedience training and had only been on a leash a couple times to go to the vet. You may have guessed it. He offered Grace the opportunity to have 15 month old Ellie so she could be in his 4-H club, and Grace became part of the experiment. Now dogs became a "big" part of our lives. Grace wanted to make Uncle Paul proud and put a lot of time and effort into training her new pal. She defied the odds and with Ellie became one of the top obedience teams in the UKC. They attained every possible obedience title and in their final year of competition placed 3rd in the country in Utility - the most advanced obedience class. 

Now, you do see three dogs in the photo. It didn't take long for our two other daughters to get dogs and join in the fun. From the left you see Tori, Ellie then Bounder. The girls have always been in charge of their dogs including training, feeding, grooming, vet appointments ~ everything. They learned so much responsibility, and the Lord has opened up many doors for us to share our faith along the way. There are people from many walks of life in the dog world, and I pray that the Lord has been able to touch some of them through us. While Elizabeth and Maria did not train for the advanced classes, they were recognized as top Junior handlers by qualifying for an invitation to the National UKC Dog Show each year they showed. 

This sweet photo was taken a year ago ~ one of the last photos before Ellie left us. Grace has just picked a new border collie puppy and is excited to have a dog in her life again. 

Tips and Techniques:

Inking ~ The larger jeweled flower started out as layers of creamy Prima flowers - the kind you used to buy in the pillars - I simply rubbed on some distress ink. The wooden leaves were also lightly inked. The background paper was somewhat teal, so more rubbing with distress ink brought it to the right color to coordinate with this photo. The white doilies were inked up as well. 

Lace Trim ~ Such an easy addition to any border strip to add a pretty touch.

Title and Trinkets ~ I was so thrilled the other day to find these fabulous vintage lightbulb word trinkets by Prima and thought the word "Adventure" would be the perfect title for this page since our daughters have had quite an adventure with their dogs!! I also enjoy adding little trinkets, buttons, wooden pieces into my clusters.

Stamping ~ I repeated this charming background stamp before adding my embellishments. To get a soft edge, I just tear a piece of paper towel and place where I want the stamped edges to be and stamp right over it.

Flourishes ~ I cut this gorgeous flourish into two pieces and used in each corner for balance.

Twine Flower ~ My tutorial for the handcrafted twine flower can be found here.

Distressing ~ So quick and easy with my Donna Salazar Distrezz-It-All by Zutter to get these nice "thick" edges. 

Canvas Tape ~ I simply folded and laid some this canvas tape at the edge of the clusters. A little talc powder on the adhesive edge that is up takes care of the stickiness. 

Fussy Cutting ~ I tucked a few fussy cut pieces in as well. 

Journaling ~ I wanted my "required element" to blend seamlessly into my layout, so hand wrote it at the bottom under the green paper strip. It says "Dogs are not our whole lives, but they make our lives whole." Roger Caras

"A Perfect Day" Details ~ ScrapThat! Feb. Kit

I'm back today to share the details of "A Perfect Day" Created with the February ScrapThat! Kit. As you may remember, Elizabeth brought Andrew into our family back in October. We were delighted to receive the wedding photos last month just in time for me to use one to create the final LO with my gorgeous February Kit. Aren't they a sweet couple?

"A Perfect Day"

Tips and Techniques:

Ribbons ~ I used the cream cardstock in the kit to cut ribbons. I then used a foam applicator to apply Distress inks to pull out the colors found on the focal background paper. Finally I distressed the edges with my Prima distressing tool and edged with a darker distress ink. To make them look more like actual ribbon, I gently bent and crumpled them until they had a soft fabric like appearance. I then snipped some pieces from two of the kit ribbons to layer over top of the paper ribbon strips. Our former DT, Marilyn Rivera, is a master of transforming paper to look and drape like fabric and I got this idea from her. You will be inspired by a visit her blog, Treasuring Memories.

Netting ~ The kit came with gorgeous netting that works so well to add extra dimension. Here I tucked some behind my flower cluster.

Wood Heart Flourish ~ I painted the KaiserCraft Heart with gold metalic paint and when dry stamped across the piece with a script stamp using black Stazon.

Chipboard Frame ~ I added this Dusty Attic Chipboard piece from my stash. I love this photo, but Andrew's had around Elizabeth's shoulder a bit pronounced when placed on a scrapbook page. Using the chipboard piece to frame and layer over the photo took care of that little "problem." The technique here is so easy peasy. I simply painted with metallic paint and when dry took some Distress ink in a darker shade to add dimension on the edges. 

Puffy Hearts ~ These Green Tara hearts are included in the EAO kit. They were just a little bright for this page, so I spritzed them with some cork Glimmer Mist to get more of a burgundy color. 

Distressed Layers ~ I framed the photo with two of the kit cardstock papers and used my Donna Salazar/Zutter Distrezz-It-All on the edges. Behind the top right corner, I placed a corner from the gorgeous square doily found in the main kit. 

Medallion ~ The kit includes these kraft journal spots which made the perfect base for my medallion. The pearl ribbon slide is also in the kit and the paper ribbons are described earlier. The metal heart is from my stash. 

Hand Stitching ~ I drew a swirled line around the border of my layout in pencil, then went back and pierced stitching holes, erased the pencil mark and stitched with coordinating embroidery floss. I used to cross stitch, so I have an entire box of DMC floss to choose from. 

Mixed Media Butterfly ~ What is a page without some mixed media? I used some Martha Stewart White Texture Effect over one of her butterfly stencils, then sprinkled on some gold microbeads. 

Title ~ This really was a perfect day, so this title worked perfectly for my page. Originally, I cut it out in the beautiful bracket frame from the page. I brushed on some Ranger Rock Candy Distress Paint. I didn't set it aside far enough to allow it to dry, because I accidentally laid some scrap paper on top, ruining the edge. It was one of those happy mistakes, since I like the words cut out better than I did in the frame. I'm here to tell you, always look for the lemonade when those scrappy lemons happen.

Christmas Memories ~ DT for The Scrapping Stamper

Christmas is always a very special time of the year!! This layout is of a photo taken when our children were much younger. Our three oldest and a cousin gathered around my husband at his parents' home. He's reading the Christmas story to them, explaining how Jesus' birth is the reason for our celebration. It has been such a joy over the years for us to share our love of the Lord with our children and to see them grow to love Him as well.

"Christmas Memories"

It is such a blessing to be on Shannon's Design team and work with her lovely sketches each month! I used Donna Salazar Products for this page to enter into her December Challenge to create a holiday themed project using ribbon and at least one Donna Salazar product. 

Tips and Techniques:

Hand Crafted Flower ~ I used a combination of DSD Spellbinder Bitty Blossoms and Grand Peony dies to create this lovely rose with one of my twine flowers underneath made in jute. My tutorial on creating the twine flowers can be found here. 

Ribbon and Pearls ~ This is an older technique that I revived for this project. I punched a small hole on both sides of a corrugated ridge, leaving two ridges without holes to space. On each end I just punched one hole on the side where the ribbon would end. I laced my sheer, iridescent ribbon onto a yarn needle and laced it through the holes, but not pulling tight, so there would be a puff of ribbon between each set of holes. To hide the holes, I placed a red pearl between each puff.

Corrugated Board Mat ~ I love the grungy look of Donna's corrugated board by Zutter. I use a foam brush to apply paint to the ridges and leave the valleys the natural kraft color. When I try using a bristle brush the paint tends to go down into the valleys as well. I went back and lightly rubbed the torn edges with some distress ink.

Distrezzing ~ I distressed all the straight edges including my photo with my handy DSD Distrezz-It-All by Zutter to get the heavily distressed edges in a flash.

Hanging Christmas Ornaments ~ I didn't have any punches or dies for ornaments, so I traced an ornament and hand cut them. I used my finger to apply a little glue and some Mojo Dust that Natasha sneaked into my last order. If you are looking for Donna Salazar products, be sure to check out Natasha's Store. To achieve the hanging effect, I hand stitched from the ornaments to the top of the page. 

Crackled Border ~ I applied a nice thick coat of white DecoArt Texture Crackle to the top edges of my page. It cracks as it dries. It takes a while to dry so some patience is required. ;-) When dry, I used my finger to apply some gold Rub and Buff. 

Antiqued Doily ~ Several colors of Distress Ink rubbed over the doily gives the nice antiqued look and brings out the design.

Scrapping Every Day Miracles December Main Challenge ~ Scrap where you find joy during the  Christmas Holidays with a twist - include glimmer and/or sparkle. Gary and I find great joy in sharing our love for Christ with our family during the holidays. This photo is Gary sharing the Christmas story with our children when they were younger. The sparkle is the glittery dust on the ornaments and bright shiny pearls with iridescent sheer lace.

Thank You Card and Christmas Tag

I finished up my ScrapThat! projects earlier this week and had some time to work on a couple other projects. The first is a thank you card I created for the Donna Salazar November Challenge to create a 'Thank You' card including the color BROWN, using a tag, and at least one Donna Salazar Designs product. If you've followed me for a while, you know I'll be using way more than one of her amazing products!! 

I've also created this card with Mona Pendelton's CR84FN Card Challenge #68 to focus on the beautiful color pallet of burgundy, gray, and cream. "Thank You Card"

Tips and Techniques:

Flower/Leaves ~ I used Donna's Rose Creations Die Set by Spellbinders to create this gorgeous rose and leaves. I recently placed an order with Natasha and she added a little baggie of MoJo Dust (glitter) to my order that I just had to try out here. I used my finger to spread some glue on the edges and dusted with Mojo for lots of sparkle!! The leaves were cut from the grey print paper, then inked this lovely color for my required "brown" element. 

Chipboard ~ I painted this Want2Scrap Chippie with burgundy paint, then when dry with some cream. When the top coat of paint was still tacky, I rubbed it off in places to distress and reveal the burgundy beneath. 

Fussy Cutting ~ I keep a baggie of fussy cut pieces from my Donna Salazar paper scraps. The corner piece and butterfly came from my bag of goodness! 

Distressing ~ I distressed the straight edges with my DSD Distrezz-It-All by Zutter. I just can't say enough about how much I enjoy using this sweet machine!! 

Machine Stitching ~ I added a straight stitch around the border of the grey print mat. 

Tag ~ I used a scrap of Donna's Artistic Paper for my tag. I printed "Thanks" using Marcelle Script font which I found on the internet, then used a Martha Stewart tag punch to cut it out. I added a little Frayed Burlap Distress Ink on the edges.

My second project of the day is this sweet Christmas tag I created for the Bo Bunny November Card challenge to create a tag. I used a mix of Bo Bunny Christmas lines. 

"Christmas Wishes"

Tips and Techniques:

Handcrafted Flower/Leaves ~ This flower may look familiar since it is the same as the once on my  thank you card, but without the Mojo Dust. The edging here is translucent medium I applied with a fine paint brush. I created these flowers last December for Joseph and Rachel's wedding card box. They didn't have room to keep the box, so I am reusing the flowers here. The leaves are cut from the Spellbinder Foliage Die set and then pinched and inked for dimension. 

Crinkle Ribbon ~ I dyed some rayon crinkle ribbon with distress ink to match the color in the image of the girl and scrunched it up to dry. I topped the bow with a button from the Snowfall collection. 

Fussy Cutting ~ When I saw this sweet image on Bo Bunny's Noel Cheer paper, I knew it would be perfect cut out for this tag. 

Distressing ~ This time I hand distressed the edges along with some inking. The doily and lace were also lightly inked to age them a bit.

Beautiful ~ ScrapThat! November Kit

This morning's snowfall has melted away, but left a hint of the winter to come. I have one final layout from the gorgeous November ScrapThat! Kit to share with you today. It was really a joy to work with this amazing kit featuring Bo Bunny Serenade and full of so many wonderful embellishments.

This photo of Rachel and her bridesmaids taken before the wedding is one that really caught my eye. I talked with her about it over Thanksgiving and found out that it is a shot that Rachel suggested to the photographer. I love how the girls look like they are having so much fun peaking out from behind the columns.

~Using the MK, EAO, & FAO Kits ~

Tips and Techniques:

Corrugated Board ~ You can see the corrugated board layered behind my photo. I have so much fun with this household item. Whenever I get some packaging that has the narrow little corrugation, it goes into my stash. Here I used a foam brush to lightly apply some black paint to the top ridges of the corrugation and edges. When dry, I applied some Ranger Rock Candy Crackle Paint for some great texture. 

Hand Stitching ~ After the paint was dry on the corrugated board, I used my handy piercing tool to create stitching holes around the curved edge along with some x's.

Misted Rock Salt Chipboard ~ My tutorial for the grungy finish on the chipboard door can be found here.

Curled Vine ~ The jeweled Prima leaves came with brown wire stems, which I pulled off to create the vines in my cluster. I wrapped the wire around a narrow metal bar for making wire coils, but anything like  a knitting needle, or paint brush would work. 

Flowers ~ The November ScrapThat! main kit included this gorgeous WOC poppy and the sweet little white poppies. The Flower Add-On Kit included the amazing Prima Gracie vine and lovely Cabaletta blossoms in white, black, and Grey. I layered some of the black tulle under the red poppy.

Punched Frame ~ I needed a different size frame than my punch set would allow, so I punched it larger, trimmed the ends and overlapped the ends resulting in the lovely corner.

Chipboard ~ I simply used some metallic paint on this Dusty Attic Holly piece to tuck under the flower cluster.

Distressing ~ Of course I used my Distrezz-It-All to distress all the straight edges.
