Mixed Media Mother's Day Card for Little Birdie Crafts

Welcome to my creative space!

Mother's Day is just around the corner and I created this sweet card for my mom featuring the gorgeous Shabby Chic Bouquet paper and flower collections.  The card will fit into a standard 6×6″ shadowbox or frame, so I thought this sentiment about memories would work well as a display for everyday home decor and yet be lovely for a Mother’s Day card.

"The Adventure Begins" Mixed Media Card for Studio75

Welcome to my creative space!

Today I have a sweet card to share with you featuring the fabulous Studio75 Berry Copse paper collection along with beautiful chipboard from the store.

The current Studio75 challenge is to create something for Mother's Day. Our daughter and her husband had their first child, a little boy, two month's ago. Being a mom is such a wonderful experience that I thought this sentiment that says "and so the adventure begins" would be perfect for this card that I created to celebrate her very first Mother's Day.

Tips and Techniques

The papers from the Berry Copse collection have such gorgeous, rich colors and designs as seen in this beautiful green background paper. I added a leaf design stenciled with molding paste and stamped opposite corners with an Agateria grille stamp from the store.

I combined succulents, burlap flowers and dimensional flowers from Little Birdie Crafts at A.C. Moore to create a focal cluster. I heat embossed Scrapiniec Confetti Chipboard Hearts and Artistico HDF Cogs with Stampendous Shabby White Embossing Enamel as well as a Finnabair Mechanicals metal gear and tucked them in around the edges of the cluster.

For added interest, I tucked in a few Pistachio Stamen and then filled in with some green US ArtQuest Prills adhered with Bambino Glue. Don't you think this sentiment is just perfect for a first Mother's Day?

I simply adore that each and every Studio75 paper collection includes such gorgeous images to fussy cut. These leaves and berries are found on the 03/04 paper strip. 

The burlap flowers are lightly dry brushed with white gesso for a softer look.

More fussy cutting. You can also see that I tucked in a pearl and several sparkling FinnaBair Sugar Art Pebbles. The background is stenciled with Finnabair Paper Texture Paste using this TCW Mini Jungle Vines Stencil designed by Gabrielle Pollacco.

And one final close-up of the cog. I recently added a few bee charms to my stash and couldn't resist adding them here. They are silver, but I rubbed gold art wax over them so they would better coordinate with the other elements.

Mixed Media Mother's Day Card for Scrap & Craft

Welcome to my creative space!

We are so blessed with a beautiful daughter-in-law who is an amazing mom to our little granddaughter, Avery. I created this sweet Mother's Day card for her featuring the Craft O'Clock Always Together Collection paired with Mulberry Magnolia Flowers and a Pink Cherry Blossom from the Scrap & Craft store. I've also entered this card in the Lindy's Stamp Gang May Challenge.

Tips and Techniques

I simply adore how the Craft O'Clock collections include such gorgeous images on the back of the package label to use on your projects. I fussy cut a couple of these floral images to tuck in behind the dimensional flowers.

The focal flowers include Magnolia Flowers and Pink Cherry Blossom from the store. They are dry brushed with white gesso for a shabby mixed media feel.

I've also tucked in metal wings, resin flowers, ribbon leaves, die cuts, jewelry pieces, sequins, hand crocheted flower, art pebbles tin hearts, and art stones from my stash. When creating mixed media pieces, you can really combine about anything you might have laying around. I've colored the wings, resin flowers, jewelry piece, and art stones with Lindy's Stamp Gang Autumn Maple Crimson and Tibetan Poppy Teal Starburst mist, then rubbed with Finnabair art wax.

When creating a cluster, it helps to start with the larger pieces in the center, then build out with smaller elements. Here, I built a layer of torn lace down from the center of the cluster and added dimensional items over top.

Here's a close-up to see more of the mixed media background. I added stenciling, a bit of color, and white spatter with drawing ink. The edges are distressed to add to the shabby feel of the card.

Bambino Glue from the store is used to adhere the art stones and sequins.

Mother's Day card for Donna Salazar

It's a special weekend to celebrate the mother's in our lives. I'd like to wish each of you who are mom's a special day on Sunday. To celebrate, I've created this card for my mom. Donna's designs and products are so great to work with for shabby mixed media projects like this.

Tips and Techniques

These sweet roses are created with the mulberry paper from Donna's Mix'd Media Stax 2 cut with her Spellbinder's Bitty Blossoms Dies, then brushed with gesso. 

Underneath the flowers, I've layered Donna's Mix'd Media Stax 2 Dictionary Paper and Want2Scrap Corrugated Board along with other delicate elements. 

Inside and out I dry brushed the background with gesso, then mixed Donna's Clearsnap Mix'd Media Inx Reinker into gesso and dry brushed that over top.

The edges are distressed with Donna's Distrezz-it-All by Zutter, then machine stitched.
