Altered Mixed Media Embroidery Hoop with Handcrafted Silk Flowers for Scrap & Craft

Today I have a sweet mixed media altered embroidery hoop featuring handcrafted Silk Foam flowers along with the gorgeous Studio75 Violet Love Collection and fabulous chipboard and stamps from the Scrap & Craft Store. I really enjoyed creating this darling home decor piece!

Tips and Techniques

These beautiful flowers are created with Silk Foam colored with three purple and blue shades of Prima Oil Pastels. I used the Metal Ball Tool Set from the store to shape the petals. These Wild Orchid Crafts stamen were the perfect color for the flower centers.

The gorgeous Anemone Border Botanical Chipboard piece was heat embossed in Ranger's Pale Gold Embossing Powder, then rubbed with Finnabair's Amethyst Magic wax.

Another close-up shot of the flowers from a different angle. You can see the Artistiko Cog tucked into the cluster. The grid pattern on the background paper is stamped with the Agateria Grille Clear Stamp. I also spattered Lindy's Stamp Gang Jazzy Jivin' Purple across the background to add touches of purple. 

I added a bit of extra purple below the sentiment from the Violet Love collection with a watercolor marker. Bambino Glue from the store is used to adhere Prills, microbeads, mica flakes, rhinestones, and pearls.

Mixed Media Art Brush with Silk Foam Flower for Scrap & Craft

Welcome to my creative space!

I've been seeing so many gorgeous mixed media altered paint brushes, that I just had to create one for myself. This started with an inexpensive 3-inch brush with a wooden handle. The handcrafted flowers is my first with Silk Foam from the Scrap & Craft Store. The gorgeous chipboard pieces are also from the store. Tips and Techniques

This handcrafted flower is created with Silk Foam, shaped with the Metal Ball Tool Set, and colored with Distress Oxide inks. The white Mini Stamen are also from the store. 

I don't think I'll be using Distress Oxides to color Foamiran or Silk Foam again even though I adore the colors. Since it is a more permanent ink, my hands were stained for days. :D 

 

The Anemone Fabian Ornaments Chipboard and Artistiko Cog from the Scrap & Craft store are heat embossed with pale gold embossing powder.

The wings are created with Prima Paper Clay in the Prima Wings & Locket Mould, set aside overnight to dry, then brushed with Finnabair's Sparks paint and Wax. Finnabair's metal "Art" piece is also brushed with Sparks Paint and wax. The brush has several layers of Finnabair's Impasto Paints and Sparks Paints along with gesso then finished off with a light brushing of her gold wax.

I used Bambino Glue from the store to adhere Finnabair's Regular and Mini Art Stones around the cluster. I thinned some of the Sparks Paint to brush over the Art Stones, then a light brushing with the gold wax to highlight the texture.

 

 This gorgeous Misz Masz Chipboard Butterfly is brushed with Sparks Paint and the edges with gold art wax. Bambino Glue is a great way to adhere microbeads for a textured body.

The handle of the brush is stenciled with Finnabair's Light Paste. The decorative metal piece is painted and waxed like the rest of the brush and centered with a coordinating rhinestone from my stash.

Masculine Industrial Mixed Media Tag for Scrap & Craft

Welcome to my creative space!

I enjoy getting grungy with masculine designs. This tag is a graduation gift for the son of a good friend. I just adore this senior portrait taken of him on a bridge with the industrial red beams. The Tim Holtz tag board is rather large at 6 1/2" wide by 12" high so is a great home decor piece featuring the Studio75 Cherry Blossom Collection as well as chipboard, stamps, and brick stencil from the Scrap & Craft Store. Tips and Techniques

I wanted to bring in a grungy industrial feel to go with the gorgeous bridge in the photo so the gears in the Scrapiniec Flying Hearts Set were just perfect. This is one long strip of gears that I cut to frame the corner of the photo. The chipboard was heat embossed with Stampendous Aged Taupe enamel for an old metal feel. 

Around the tag edges, I stamped with the Grille and Grille 3 stamp with grey ink.

The Small Brick Stencil with Finnabair's Light Paste is a perfect accent on the background. It's spritzed with Lindy's Black Orchid Silver and Autumn Maple Crimson Starburst spray to highlight the texture. These colors were also used to add spatter texture. The dark paper behind the photo came from the 6x6" Studio75 Cherry Blossom Paper Set and was torn to size then inked with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to tone down the bright white edges.

The circle piece was diecut from chipboard and enameled with more of the aged taupe powder. I found a roll of back plastic mesh at a flea market that's great for masculine pieces. I cut and brushed a couple bits with art wax to tuck under the photo.

The small stars are from the Scrapiniec Confetti Stars Set. There are just a ton of little stars in this set that can be used so many different ways to go with any project. Here I brushed them with Finnabair's Rust Effect Paste so they look like rusty metal.

I have a bag of rusty washers collected by my friend's husband who knows I adore rust. I just had to use them for their son's gift. At the bottom of the bag I noticed flakes and bits of rusty goodness. I brushed Bambino Glue around the washers and sprinkled the rusty bits into the glue for texture. The washer is topped with a barn star and gear. To make it look like the washer had rusted in place, I brushed some Rust Effect Paste around the washer and spritzed with water.

More rusty goodness. A piece of chunky silver chain from my stash was brushed with more rust effect paste to color.

The tag background is from the 12x12" Studio75 Cherry Blossom Paper Set. I traced and cut the paper then used soft matte get to adhere the paper to the tag. Rolling with a brayer made sure the paper was adhered securely. Once the gel was completely dry, the edges were lightly sanded then inked. 

The vintage key was still somewhat shiny, so I brushed it with Rust Effect Paste and placed it atop another of the fab rusty washers.

This cool gear came from the Artistiko Cogs Set made from HDF board. I just adore the fabulous gear shapes in this set. It was heat embossed with metallic bronze powder with just a hint of black mixed in.
