Watercolor Dragonfly Card ~ May Craft Hoarders Anonymous Blog Hop

Welcome to the May Craft Hoarders Anonymous Blog Hop!

You should be coming to my blog from Donna Idlet. Then after visiting me, hop over to Bonnie Garby. To start at the beginning of the hop, please head over to Gloria Stengel! You can scroll down to the bottom of this post for a full list of designers participating in this month's blog hop.

Have you ever see a cool technique, buy a collection of products to use and then it sits there collecting dust? Last year I saw some really amazing projects created with Brusho Crystal Colours, so of course I purchased the entire set. I created one card when I first got them, then there they sat. My goal for this month's hoarder's hop was to put those watercolour crystals to good use. This is a different project than I usually create - no dimension and little texture, but I adore the visual effect. I've finished off my card using paper, embossing powder, and a stamp that I've had for several years.

Most of my cards are too thick to mail easily, so it's nice to create one that can simply be addressed, stamped, and sent on its way!!

And here's a close-up so you can see the lovley watercolour effect behind this embossed image. The wings are a mixture of Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals and Brushos, while the background is created with two colors of Brusho Crystals.

I hope you've been inspired to grab a neglected technique product
and put it to good use on an upcoming project!!

Your next stop on the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Blog Hop is the talented Bonnie Garby. If you have dropped by my blog and would like to start at the beginning, be sure to hop on over to Gloria's blog HERE.

"Joy" Birdcage with VIDEO TUTORIAL ~ Scraps of Elegance April Kit

I have to admit. I get very excited when my Scraps of Elegance package arrives at my door each month. The gorgeous April Kit was no exception. The newest addition to the add on line up, the Off The Page Add On,  has been so fun to work with. This month Melinda included this fabulous Prima Birdcage for the OTP Add On offering.

Not only is this a gorgeous piece to alter, the timing couldn't have been more perfect. One of my good scrapbooking friends recently turned 75. Her daughter threw a birthday party for her, and she invited us scrappy gals. She absolutely adores birds, so I just had to create this as a special gift for her.

I have created a process video tutorial to share with you.

Techniques shared in this video include:
~ Distressed patina finish
~ DIY sisal bird nest
~ DIY word banner
~ Mixed media background

Enjoy!

Treasured Friend Card ~ April Craft Hoarders Anonymous Blog Hop

Welcome to the April Craft Hoarders Anonymous Blog Hop!

You should be coming to my blog from Barbara Rankin. Then after visiting me, hop over to Marisa Job! To start at the beginning of the hop, please head over to Gloria Stengel! You can scroll down to the bottom of this post for a full list of designers participating in this month's blog hop.

I hope you've been enjoying inspiration from the talented designers along your way!

Last month I shared a masculine card with you, so I thought I'd switch things up this month with a girly shabby chic card.

This hop is all about using up your hoard of crafty supplies. I had a package with one lone rose remaining, that I've been moving around for months. It's on the large size, so I just haven't found the right spot for it on any of my projects, so I decided to design a card around that flower. It's the large rose in the center of my cluster.

Do you have collections of things from several years ago? Stuff you knew you had to have, then didn't really use all that much? Embossing folders fit into that category for me, and I have some lovely ones. I pulled out this gorgeous Anna Griffin folder to create a textured backdrop for the flowers on this birthday card I created for a dear friend.

"Treasured Friend"

Tips and Techniques
You can see the gorgeous rose I talked about earlier. Yes, this card is quite dimensional and will be hand delivered. The lovely lace inserts were cut from a hand-crocheted doily. I don't even know where the doily came from. It had been gathered/glued in the center with an (ugly) ribbon flower and pearl strand bow. Probably an old wedding decoration. I chopped it apart and tucked a couple of the scallops into the cluster. I also cut apart the pearl strand to form a couple loops peaking out over the leaves. Can you tell I hoard untold crafty bits and pieces?

Putting this card together was quite easy. I arranged the flowers - all leftover pieces from my fabulous Scraps of Elegance Kits, and glued them in place. To add a bit of sparkle, I dabbed clear-drying glue across the flowers and leaves, then sprinkled with chunky glass glittter. I also tucked in some grain seed heads for more texture.

Here's a side view.

I embossed white card stock then rubbed it with dark magenta and raw umber Pan Pastels to highlight the edges and raised embossing. I colored the patterned paper edges as well. Vellum can be a little tricky to stamp on because the ink stays wet for a long time. Once the ink was dry, I rubbed lightly with the Pan Pastels.

Hello creative friends. Thanks for stopping by. I have a new project up on the Donna Salazar Designs Blog. As you may know, I've been creating pages for a Scripture Art Journal for the past year using Donna's fabulous Denim Art Journal. With Easter approaching this Sunday, I thought I would focus on a verse reflecting this special day, "He is risen." I am so grateful to have a relationship with our risen, living Savior.

I've used delicate spring colors and feature Donna's new Spellbinders® Cascading Butterflies die.

Steampunk Birthday Birthday Card ~ March Craft Hoarders Anonymous Blog Hop

Welcome to the March Craft Hoarders Anonymous Blog Hop!

You should be coming to my blog from Glenda Brooks. Then after visiting me, hop over to Donna Idlet! To start at the beginning of the hop, please head over to Gloria Stengel! You can scroll down to the bottom of this post for a full list of designers participating in this month's blog hop.

I hope you've been enjoying inspiration from the talented designers along your way!

I enjoy creating masculine cards for the special guys in my life. This grungy, mixed media steampunk card is for my husband who has a birthday coming up in April.

Most of the items used on this card have been in my hoard for at
least a year, and some much longer than that!! ;-)

Tips and Techniques
This Scrapiniec hot air balloon has been in my stash for a couple years now. It fit perfectly over this balloon image fussy cut off of a page from the BoBunny Timeless Memories collection. A quick and easy way to give a metallic finish to chipboard is with embossing powder. Here I've use Stampendous Aged Silver. The distressed ruler tucked in on the left is an odd piece given to me a couple years ago. I distressed it by first rubbing on metallic aqua paint, then with Payne's grey craft paint. The layer behind the balloon was stenciled with distress ink using a TCW Mini Butterfly Collage stencil.

These watch parts are also embossed using Stampendous aged black embossing enamel. The script on the background was randomly stamped across the card.

The tag for my sentiment is a Simple Stories Kraft Journal Layer. First I stamped the sentiment in permanent black ink, then I spritzed Lindy's Stamp gang Tawny Turquoise Moon Shadow Mist on my craft matt and laid the stamped tag onto the mist to create this grungy background. I also spritzed and splattered the background with the Lindy's mist.

I used my Prima Crackle stencil along with Viva Decor Bronze Croco Crackling color. This paint is quite thick and worked will with the stencil. I adore the way it crackled as it dried. Matte medium was used to adhere the mica chips.

A blend of metallic Lumiere paints was rubbed onto the edges.

Your next stop on the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Blog Hop is the talented Glenda Brooks. If you have dropped by my blog and would like to start at the beginning, be sure to hop on over to Gloria's blog HERE.
