"Welcome Baby" Mixed Media Layout and Technique VIDEO TUTORIAL with the March Scraps of Elegance Kit

Welcome to my creative space. Our little granddaughter is nearly 3 months old now and just as sweet as can be. I had this photo from her baby shower on my work table the day she was born. It turned out that her newborn photo worked perfectly on the page I had planned out. So now I'm back with a new layout that really works better for this darling photo, a close up of the booties on her shower cake. The pink pairs so beautifully with the browns in the ScrapBerry's Photo Archive Collection papers in the Coordinating Paper Add On. I've also used embellishments and flowers from the Main Kit and Add Ons, as well as items from the Scraps of Elegance Store. You can find a complete product list at the bottom of this post.

FTC Disclosure: I am currently working as a freelance designer for Scraps of Elegance. While I am compensated in product, I maintain the freedom as an independent designer to say what I truly think of these products and will not recommend something that I don’t personally use and enjoy.

I have a technique video tutorial for you today showing you how to create the Honey Glittered Butterfly embellishments in the top left corner of my layout featuring the fabulous Faber-Castell Honey Resin Kit included in the March Scraps of Elegance Creativity Add On.

Enjoy!

Tips and Techniques

Here's a close-up of the Honey Glittered Butterflies.

Such gorgeous flowers are included in the kit and add ons to create clusters around the photo. I softened the color of the paper flowers by dry brushing with gesso. I've also tucked in some beautiful Graphic 45 chipboard and cardstock stickers as well as a crystal stick pin from the Main Kit.

Another flower cluster shot. I added a couple wooden hearts from my stash that I enameled with embossing powder.

This gorgeous Blue Fern Studios Chipboard from a previous kit is also heat set with embossing powder. That's a quick and easy way to create an elegant finish on chipboard pieces. I've used Dina Wakley Gel Medium from the store to adhere Prills and microbeads across the page. The You're Invited sentiment from the cardstock stickers sheet was just perfect for this baby shower layout.

I didn't need to do a thing to this gorgeous steampunk butterfly from the store. I stamped a couple hearts and colored them using the Prima Peony Color Philosophy Ink as a watercolor wash.

Make a Wish Card for ScrapBerry's

Hello my sweet paper crafting friends. I've created this sweet Christmas card featuring the beautiful ScrapBerry's Once Upon a Winter and Happy Holiday's Collections. I’ve blended my shabby mixed media style with this adorable image from the Once Upon a Winter collection.

I'm up on the ScrapBerry's blog HERE.
Thanks for dropping by their blog to leave a comment.

FTC Disclosure: I am currently working as a freelance designer for ScrapBerry's. While I am compensated in product, I maintain the freedom as an independent designer to say what I truly think of these products and will not recommend something that I don’t personally use and enjoy.

Tips and Techniques
I’ve used ScrapBerry’s Magnolia and Clove flowers edged with snowflake paste as the focal point of the cluster and edged some of the background paper layers with snowflake paste as well. The ScrapBerry’s Shabby Ribbon ties up into a gorgeous bow.

I tucked in a Once Upon a Winter snowflake and holly brad next to the sentiment. The background is stenciled to add texture using a blend of whipped spackle and super fine glitter. It’s a great way to get the sparkle of glitter without the mess. To add more texture, the edges of the paper layers are inked then distressed.

The holly image is fussy cut then edged with snowflake paste. The shimmer on the berries is added with a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. There are two more holly cut outs tucked into the flower cluster as well.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you’ve been inspired to grab your ScrapBerry’s Christmas paper to create cards for the special people in your life.

"Praise the Lord" Mixed Media Scripture Art Journal Page for Donna Salazar Designs

Hello my dear paper crafting friends. I'm up today on the Donna Salazar Designs blog with another of my mixed media Scripture art journal pages. The background is something near and dear to me. My mom's church was cleaning out a storage closets a few years back, and one of the things they were getting rid of were ancient hymn books - soft covered, yellowed with age, the edges bent and crumbling. My mom, knowing how much I treasure vintage book pages, brought a couple of them to me. I took a few of those treasured old pages and tore them into strips and pieces to create the background for this page. Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Girlie Grunge Art Medium, thinned with water was just perfect to adhere and protect this delicate paper on one of her Denim Art Journal pages.

Of course I added mixed media textures and color, but allowed plenty of those sweet music notes and bits of hymn verses to show through. You can see more photos and learn all the details HERE.

Here's a sneak peek:

Here are links to previous mixed media Scripture art journal pages I've created:

"Come Unto Me" Journal page for Donna Salazar Designs

I would like to wish all of my US followers a happy Thanksgiving as we celebrate this holiday tomorrow. A day to reflect on the many blessings that have come our way and to spend time with our loved ones over a special meal of turkey and all the fixings. Do you have a special holiday food? When we lived in North Carolina, I discovered a recipe for praline sweet potatoes. I grew up eating canned sweet potatoes and just a small spoonful was more than enough. When I tasted these, I actually liked them and had to have the recipe. They have become a family tradition and one of my favorite holiday foods.

I'm up on Donna Salazar's blog today with a new entry for my Faith Art Journal created with Donna Salazar's fabulous products. This is a favorite verse of mine and always an encouragement when I'm weary or when troubles come my way. I wanted a serene background, so kept to a mostly monochromatic background with a subtle bit of color on the chipboard flower.

Here's a sneak peek:

Please stop by Donna's blog for all the details HERE.

Mixed Media Tag & Card Set with VIDEO TUTORIAL ~ Scraps of Elegance September Kit

Hi everyone, today I'm sharing a gift card and tag set I created with the fabulous September Scraps of Elegance kit. One of my sweet scrapbooking friends is expecting her first baby. Tiff is an elementary school art teacher and a mentor when it comes to combining colors so I wanted to create something extra special for her. Her baby decor colors are green, pink, and watermelon, so the tag is also designed to be a wallhanging for Aly's room.

I've created a process video sharing the steps and techniques
used to create my shabby chic, mixed media wallhanging tag.

I'm featuring a background technique using the
Rebecca Baer Moroccan Tile & Vine Stencil.

(Similar techniques are used to create the card.)

Enjoy!

Here you can see the texture details. I'm really enjoying the US ArtquestPrills that have been coming in the kits. (Also available in the SOD Store) These tiny pearl-like beads as you can see, are all different sizes, giving additional visual dimension and texture. Dry brushing and pooling with mist as shown in the video adds depth to the texture they create.

Here you can see the layered design created with the Rebecca Baer Stencil.

Here's a shot of the card. As you can see, the techniques used here are similar to those employed for the tag.

One final shot.
