Sweet Floral Bird Card for ScrapBerry's

Welcome to my creative space!

I enjoy creating cards for family and friends and adding personal touches just for them. One of my friends adores birds, so the images in ScrapBerry's Garden of Delights Collection along with one of their Bird on the Perch Charms were just perfect to create a lovely card for her. I've also pulled a chipboard bird frame and a wooden bird cage from my stash to add to the bird theme.

Tips and Techniques

This sweet cluster includes a ScrapBerry's Cherry Blossom and Stemmed Lily as well as a Bird on the Perch Charm. I've also tucked in a few Wild Orchid Crafts Flowers. The Cards 1 page included this darling bird image. 

I added a Blue Fern Studios chipboard frame and KaiserCraft wooden birdcage. The frame is heat embossed with bronze embossing powder while the cage and Blue Fern Bits Of Honey chipboard are embossed in white. The lace is a piece I picked up at JoAnn's a few years back.

I rubbed the darling charm with Finnabair's Butterfly Spells Sparks paint and finished by rubbing with her Vintage Gold and Aged Brass Metallique Wax. The background is stenciled with Finnabair Light Paste and spritzed with Lindy's Creme Brûlée Cream Starburst mist and Blue Fern Studios Sky Color Mist to add texture.

This piece is molded with Prima's IOD Paper Clay and Keyholes Mould, painted with Butterfly Spells Sparks paint then rubbed with vintage gold and aged brass wax. I created more texture on the background with cheesecloth, punchinella mesh, Prills, pearls, and rhinestones.

Mixed Media Thank You Card for ScrapBerry's

Welcome to my creative space.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Years with friends and family. I received such lovely gifts for Christmas and wanted to express my thanks with a handcrafted card. Today I'm sharing a mixed media card created with ScrapBerry's beautiful "Home Sweet Home" collection along with more of their embellishments and flowers.

Close-Ups

I found a little sentiment stamp to fit this Laurel Wreath Charm. I stamped onto white cardsock, adhered the charm, then trimmed the paper around the edge. Gorgeous ScrapBerry's flowers form this lovely cluster with a polymer bird, resin flowers and a crystal sticker from the Elegy collection tucked into the edges.

I stamped randomly on the background with ScrapBerry's Fairy Tale Stamps and spattered with white ink, then filled in around the cluster with chunky glass glitter and Prills. To soften the flowers, I dry brushed with white gesso.

"Pumpkin Love" Mixed Media Layout and Process VIDEO TUTORIAL with Scraps of Elegance "Falling Leaves" Kit

Welcome to my creative space!

Our sweet daughter-in-law took this adorable photo of Avery with her first pumpkin at the picking patch. I couldn't resist making a fall themed layout with the gorgeous Scraps of Elegance "Falling Leaves" Kit. I've also created a process video tutorial to share how I've put it all together including the fun chipboard pumpkin accent which has been painted, heat embossed, glittered, and gilded in four easy steps.

"Beautiful" Baby Mixed Media Layout and Technique VIDEO TUTORIAL with February Scraps of Elegance Kit

Welcome to my creative space. I have a new project and technique video tutorial to share with you today created with the fabulous Scraps of Elegance "Watercolor Wishes" February Kit.

It's such a delight to create layouts for our sweet granddaughter who is a week old in this photo. The February Kit featuring gorgeous 49 and Market paper and flowers paired with beautiful Blue Fern Studios chipboard worked so perfectly for this sweet photo.

Anglers Mixed Media Layout ~ DT for the February Once Upon A...Sketch Challenge

It's the first of the month and that means a new challenge is up at Once Upon A...Sketch. Nadia's journaling theme this month is "Totally Addicted to . . ." I decided to take a little twist on this and scrap about our son's passion of fishing. He may not be addicted, but he sure enjoys it a lot. 

Here's my take on the February OUAS Challenge.

Journaling Theme ~ "Totally Addicted to . . ."

You are free to interpret out theme any way you like, but please make sure your layout is based on the sketch below and includes some journaling (hidden journaling is fine ~ please tell us where it is located).

Tips and Techniques

 Some of my elements like this burlap butterfly and fish netting are dry brushed with gesso to soften them. The frame is simply looped bamboo twine.

Now some close-ups showing the flowers and other elements layered around my photo.

I've tucked in real chicken wire here gifted to me by my sweet friend, Mandy. Yes, this wire has natural patina from being used for an actual coop!!

I've added texture to this gorgeous 7 Dot's Studio - 9th Wave paper by stenciling with molding paste using the Prima Netting Stencil, then added mist, dripping and stamping.

This smaller flower was quite green compared to the rest of my elements so dry brushing it with gesso then a spritz with blue glimmer mist altered it to just the right color. I enjoy perusing my stash and altering what I have to fit my project at hand. The white webbing under the photo was a scrap of black left over from a previous project that I painted with white gesso. 

I've painted and tucked in lots of fun stuff goodies around and under my photo like punchinella, and abaca woven ribbon along with this chipboard from Blue Fern Studio. I created the twine flower, and my tutorial for these flowers can be found here.

I have included additional journaling on the back of my layout:

"Joseph, I enjoy seeing your passion for the sport of fishing and how you enjoy sharing your wealth of knowledge with others who are getting started. Abby loves to fish with you and considers you her fishing hero.

As I see how much you enjoy angling, I'm so grateful that your dad put aside his golf clubs and bought that bass boat when you decided that fishing was your thing. I know you both treasure those many days out on the lake together. 

Although you have become a fisher of men as a pastor, your enjoyment of angling has not waned. How wonderful that you've found a wife who supports your passion and was delighted to say yes when you asked her to spend your lives together on a starlit night out on the lake in your humble bass boat."

Change is Beautiful ~ Guest Designing for Berry71Bleu

I'm so excited and honored to be guest designing for Berry71Bleu this month.

I just have to express how much I enjoyed designing with this month's challenge!! When I studied the November Berry71Bleu mood board, I immediately thought about the changes that happen as our children meet their soul mates and start making plans for a life together. It has been so sweet to watch our children make these changes and start lives of their own apart from us.

I was drawn to this engagement photo of our middle daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, Andrew. The color and design in this gorgeous 7 Dots Studio, 9th Wave paper, couldn't be more perfect for this sweet photo. I've added a mix of handcrafted and purchased flowers along with gorgeous chipboard, jewelry findings, and vintage buttons. The phrase in the mood board was just perfect for my title, and I used the blues and pinks for my color palette.

Close-ups and Details:

This lovely Blue Fern chipboard flourish was colored by heat embossing with Fran-tage Aged Aqua embossing enamel and the Blue Fern Vintage Key with a Metallic Bronze embossing powder. I softened the flowers and metal embellishments by brushing with gesso. You can also see behind the title where I have splattered gesso to add visual texture. I have a collection of vintage buttons that friends and family have blessed me with, and I've added some of them around the flowers and title. 

This focal flower was hand crafted with petals cut from Grand Peony and Carnation Creations dies. The petals were dampened, scrunched and misted to achieve this texture and color. The shell button is from my vintage button collection. I also keep my eye open in the jewelry department and grab jewelry findings that have been clearanced. The crystal flower and art deco piece are some that I've found. 

I colored this lovely Blue Fern Brigitte Butterfly with Luminarte Twinkling H2O's - streaking the color across the chipboard. After it had dried I added more texture with gesso. Next to my butterfly, you can see the dimension where I used modeling paste with a stencil, then brushed with Perfect Pearls Mist. I adore how the mica in the mist pooled into the crevices of the dried molding paste. It's hard to see here, but the mica glistens beautifully in the light.
