"Journey" Masculine Steampunk Card for Studio75

Welcome to my creative space!

I'm up on the Studio75 blog with a masculine card created for my dad who had a birthday in June. I've featured the fabulous Cherry Blossom collection that includes some great grungy designs that are perfect for masculine projects. I've also used wonderful chipboard pieces from the Studio75 store HERE. 

I enjoy putting personal touches on the cards I create. My dad served in the photomapping division of the Air Force, so the wings are a perfect element. He is also an amateur radio operator enjoying a nickname based on his call letters that includes King George, so I couldn't resist including the crown brad.

Tips and Techniques

The background is prepared by stamping the edges randomly with the Agateria Grill 3 stamp using permanent ink. Next a circle design is stenciled with black distress oxide ink, using the Coptic Impressions stencil and spritzed with Lindy's Gang Tainted Love Teal. I just adore the grungy effect!

 

This Scrapiniec Chained Wings Chipboard piece is painted with Little Birdie Crafts Tinted Metallic Paint in teal, gold, and silver then rubbed with several colors of Finnabar metallic wax to give a shimmery metallic finish. I've also added tiny metal cogs for dimension.

The Journey sentiment is a metal piece from my stash. I've heat embossed Artistiko Cogs with aged silver embossing enamel and rubbed with Finnabair Peacock Metallic Wax. The title fits perfectly across the two cogs.

An arrow from the Scrapiniec Focus Collection which is finished with the same techniques as the cogs.

Scrapiniec Confettie Stars are heat embossed and scattered across the background. The metal elements are painted with Little Birdie metallic paints and rubbed with Finnabair's waxes in gold, silver, and teals.

Prills and microbead texture is adhered with Bambino Glue.

The card front is adhered to a Studio75 15x15cm Blank Card. I just adore these heavyweight and sturdy card bases!

Industrial Steampunk Card for Studio75

Welcome to my creative space!

I created this card for our son-in-law's birthday featuring the fabulous Studio75 Cherry Blossom Collection. He had his first book published this past year, so I stamped the background with a vintage typewriter patent image to celebrate his special accomplishment. Don't you just adore how perfectly this fabulous grungy paper works with the vintage image and industrial/steampunk elements?

Tips and Techniques

I have arranged a mix of masculine metal elements from Finnabair, Tim Holtz, and found items along with resin wings created with Prima silicone moulds. I arranged larger items toward the center working outward with smaller items to give movement so your eye moves across the card.

 

The elements are brushed with Finnabair's Rust and Patina Effects Paste, then spritzed with water so it looks like they have weathered onto the card. I also rubbed of Finnabairs copper wax as a final layer to enhance the patina effect.

 

Grid marks are stenciled onto the background with Finnabair's white gold Icing Paste using The Crafter's Workshop Mini Sketch Grid Stencil.

  

 A close-up to see how wonderfully this paper works with the grungy texture.

 

This chain from the Scrapiniec Flying Hearts Chipboard Set combines perfectly with the other elements. It is also brushed with rust and patina paste, then rubbed with copper wax to give a vintage metallic look.

 

 These Scrapiniec Confetti Chipboard Stars are painted the same way as the chain.

 

One final close-up to see the grungy texture. Little seed beads and Finnabair microbeads are adhered with Bambino Glue. 

****Tip**** The impressed "life" sentiment on the metal tag became obscured by the media I used, so I used a sharpie marker to fill in the letters to make them visible again.

"Enjoy Every Moment" Mixed Media Art Journal Pages with the April Scraps of Elegance Kit

Welcome to my creative space!

I've created these shabby mixed media art journal pages featuring the Scraps of Elegance April Kit and have a process video tutorial to share filled with the techniques I used. The Creativity Add On is so much fun to work with. The 7gypsies Architextues Book pages are on a ring. I adore that you can mix and match the gorgeous page designs and that they can be easily removed for creating. I also enjoyed using the Spectrum Noir Sparkle Markers and Prima Color Philosophy Ink (Color Add On) as "watercolors" to paint stamped floral images onto the background with the 49 and Market Enjoy Every Moment Stamp.

"Your Paths" for OUAS featuring Leaky Shed Studio Chipboard

The Once Upon A...Sketch August Challenge is up and live. Our August journaling theme is, "The Men in Our Lives."

When Elizabeth married Andrew, we were so delighted to add another son to our family. In this fun photo, the groomsmen are "kicking off" Andrew into his new life with Elizabeth. I thought this Scripture sentiment tied in perfectly - we pray that our Lord with direct Andrew's paths as he and Elizabeth look forward to a future together.

Journaling Theme: The Men in Our Lives

You are free to interpret our theme ANY WAY you like. It is for your inspiration and this theme word DOES NOT need to be part of your title or journaling. But please make sure your layout is based on the sketch below and includes journaling (hidden journaling is fine). Acceptable journaling is MORE than just a sentence, or generic writing such as date/place etc. It needs to be present and at least 3 lines long. Remember, hidden journaling (under a photo/tag or behind your page) is perfectly fine but please DO let us know in your post where your journaling is!

My journaling is on the back of the page and says, "Andrew, your groomsmen are kicking you off into a new life with Elizabeth. It’s my prayer that our Lord with be the center of your relationship and direct your paths together. I hope you have many happy years together."

Tips and Techniques

Lots of mixed media techniques to share. This Leaky Shed Studio Bird Branch was painted with blue metallic paint and dry brushed with white gesso. 

Normally I grunge up my Leaky Shed Studio Gears and Watch Parts more, but I likd the natural chipboard color with this gorgeous 7 Dots Studio paper, so I just lightly inked the edges before adhering, then they also picked up some of the ink I splattered across the page. The two Watch Parts I layered over the larger gears were painted with black gesso for contrast. 

There's lots of layered dimension. The washer strip was cut from brown cardstock and dry brushed with gesso. The frame around my sentiment is a blast from the past. It's an old filmstrip piece with a wood grain finish. I swirled paint across it to freshen up the look. The chipboard heart is covered with aluminum tape and embossed. There are also a couple strips of punchinella with a grid - torn and painted. To keep with the masculine, grungy theme, I've dry brushed the photo edges with gesso. This was actually two separate photos taken by the wedding photographer.

The blue and orange color on the background is added with paint thinned with water and Neocolor II watercolor crayons. The silver frame behind the photo was a scrap piece that held wooden cut-outs used on another project. Yes, I tend to hold onto those odd and end pieces. lol I've also added stamping around the page edges and around the photo cluster.
