"Bless the Lord" Ironwork Cross for Donna Salazar Designs Featuring Bitty Blossoms

Christmas is nearly upon us. I hope that you are having a wonderful holiday season. I have a project to share with you today featuring Donna Salazar Designs products.

One of the things I enjoy about the holidays is creating one of a kind, handcrafted gifts. Today I have a trash to treasure gift to share with you. I found this ironwork cross for a dollar at a local thrift shop and decorated it with handcrafted flowers created with Donna's Spellbinders Bitty Blossoms dies.

Tips and Techniques

I have a stash of bitty blossom flowers created with project scraps, so this was a quick holiday project to pull together. A tutorial for my Bitty Blossoms Flowers can be found here. I used all three sizes of Bitty Blossoms. I adhered the blossoms to the ironwork cross with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

I printed out this verse from Word Art Wednesday onto white cardstock, tore it out, and rubbed several colors of Mix'd Media Inx on to coordinate with the flowers. I backed it with a strip of chipboard to hold it's shape and backed with foam tabs to raise before gluing onto the cross. 

Once I had the flowers and Word Art arranged and adhered to the cross, I applied Clearsnap Glue Gloss and sprinkled with Donna's Fairy Dust Glitter which adds so much gorgeous sparkle!

Mixed Media Card for the Really Reasonable Ribbon June Blog Hop

Good morning and welcome to the Really Reasonable Ribbon June Blog Hop.

Just look at the gorgeous ribbons in this month's RRR Ribbon Club Assortment! These sizzling summer colors are perfect to create projects for nearly any occasion. I've used them a little differently and will show how you can grunge up these ribbons to use in mixed media projects. First I'll share this birthday card I made for my sister followed by a wedding layout created earlier this month for Scrapping Everyday Miracles. 

Misted Floral Birthday Card

Tips and Techniques:

Grunged Ribbon ~ The green satin ribbon in the assortment is gorgeous, but not quite the look I was going for with this card, so I used several shades of glimmer mist to darken the color. I deliberately dabbed the ribbon into the excess mist on my craft mat so it would be mottled and distressed. I then dried it with my heat tool. Actually I overheated it, until it pulled and puckered adding another grungy element to my ribbon. Be aware that this does shrink the ribbon. I used an entire yard of ribbon and only had about a 5 to 6 inch piece left after tying this double loop bow. (Yep, it's in my stash to be used on a future project!!) Mixed Media Background ~ I spritzed and dripped several colors of mists and water, over this flower which was stenciled with white opaque flakes using a Prima stencil to create this lovely mixed media background. The base of this background is 140lb water color paper.

Sparkle ~ I dabbed the edges with Glue Gloss and sprinkled on Donna Salazar's Pralines and Cream Fairy Dust Glitter. It is so iridescent and sparkly.

The June RRR Club Assortment is so versatile and I also used the lighter blue satin with metallic silver edges for this wedding layout. 

"Love"

You might be asking yourself, "I don't see the blue ribbon here?" That's because I misted the ribbon to coordinate with my page. I first wove the ribbon into this beautiful plaited piece, then misted with teals and bronze mists. Don't you love how the silver metallic edges resist the mist and shimmer as they capture the light? I used the entire 2 yard length to create this piece, and it was well worth it for this dramatic sweeping ribbon braid across my page to anchor the banner. "Dancer" Birthday Card for RRR

My niece is turning nine, and she's is a tom boy who loves frilly things. She takes gymnastics and placed in our local beauty pageant for her age group last summer, so I thought this dancer card would be perfect for her. It features Really Reasonable Ribbon along with some extra supplies from my May ScrapThat! Kit.

Silky Crush Ribbon 1.5" ~ Rose

Seam Binding 1/2" ~ White

Iridescent White Metallic String

Tips and Techniques:

Ribbon Skirt ~ I fussy cut this dancer from the Prima Divine paper and thought the RRR Silky Crush Ribbon would create a sweet skirt. I cut three strips of the Silky Crush ribbon twice the length of her skirt, finger pressed a crease at the half way point of each and machine basted across them one at a time, right next to each other so the three pieces were connected by the basting. I then folded on the stitching line and snipped strips up to about 1/4 inch from the stitching line. The "skirt" was then gathered to the width of the dancer's waist. The weave in this ribbon is tight enough to hold up to this technique without much fraying. 

Braided Belt ~ I cut three lengths of the Metallic White String and braided it to created the belt at her waist. The sparkly belt covered the edge of the skirt to hide the gathering stitches. 

Ribbon Flower ~ I wanted just a tiny flower for her waist, so created this ribbon flower using white seam binding. 

Hand Stitching ~ I drew a line for the butterfly trail, pierced stitching holes, then stitched with Iridescent White String. In this close-up you can see the gorgeous iridescence of the metallic string. I cut a little more than usual to allow for some fraying on the string ends. 

Glitter ~ I dabbed each of the flowers on the dancer with Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear glue, then sprinkled with Donna Salazar Sugar Shimmer Fairy Dust Glitter. This is the first time I used her glitter, and you can't believe how much sparkle and shimmer it produces!! 

Flowers ~ I added a little cluster of Prima flowers to the corner. 

Distressing and stitching ~ I used my handy DSD Distrezz-It-All to distress the layers before zigzag stitching around the card.
