You Are One of a Kind for the August RRR Blog Hop

"You Are One of a Kind"

Tips and Techniques:

Layered Ribbon ~ I inked the Ribbon Club ivory satin with brown ink to give a more masculine feel, then layered it with the back side of the brown grosgrain with pink stars to wrap around the card. 

Twine Flower ~ I used 20lb Natural Hemp to create my Twine Flower and added a button from the Natural Button Grab Bag. The tutorial for my Twine Flower can be found here. Bonnie has many cords that can be used to create twine flowers. Check out these selections: Hemp Cord Spools, Hemp Cord Assortments, Baker's Twine, Jute String, and Metallic White String. 

Background Fibers ~ Wide natural ribbons can add so much grungy texture to a masculine card. Here I used Champagne Netting and Natural Jute Ribbon. I also wrapped the sentiment block with Natural Jute String. 

Rusty Chipboard ~ This chipboard from Donna Salazar's Hand Drawn Swirls was altered to look rusty by coating the top of the chipboard with a nice thick coat of Helmar Acid Free Glue. While wet, I heated the glue with my heat tool until it bubbled up, then applied Alcohol ink to color and heated some more to achieve this masculine rusty texture. 

Ribbon Tabs ~ For the little tabs, I simply folded short lengths of brown and pink star Ribbon Club Ribbon in half with the back side showing and tucked them into the top corner layers. In the opposite corner I popped on some Choc-a-Mocha Candi.

The edges were machine stitched and distressed with my Donna Salazar Distrezz-It-All by Zutter.

Birthday Card for the July Really Reasonable Ribbon Blog Hop

Just look at the gorgeous ribbons in this month's RRR Ribbon Club Assortment! These sizzling citrus colors are perfect to create summer themed projects. I created this birthday card for my my mom using the gorgeous lace and altered orange sheer ribbon.  

Birthday Card

Tips and Techniques:

Colored Ribbon ~ For this card, I needed more of a peach color than the brighter orange, so I spritzed this sheer orange and satin ribbon from the July Ribbon Club Assortment with a golden brown glimmer mist by Tattered Angels called Cork. It turned out to be just the right color to get the look I wanted to achieve. I don't hesitate to snip off a piece of ribbon and experiment with color. There are many ways to color your ribbons from mists, to inks, and even alcohol inks or markers. 

Double Loop Bow ~ This bow took about 18 inches of ribbon. The tutorial for this double loop bow by Ginny can be found here.

Lace ~ Snips of Scor-Tape keep this beautiful lace in place. 

Pearls ~ Every girly card needs a little bling, and I used some of Bonnie's Kaisercraft Pearls next to my sentiment.

I created another birthday card posted earlier this week using the green Diamond Satin Ribbon in the July Ribbon Club Assortment along with a variety of other ribbons and products from the Really Reasonable Ribbon Store. The green ribbon in the Ribbon Club Assortment was misted and inked to alter the color and bring out the diamond design.

Mixed Media Card for the Really Reasonable Ribbon June Blog Hop

Just look at the gorgeous ribbons in this month's RRR Ribbon Club Assortment! These sizzling summer colors are perfect to create projects for nearly any occasion. I've used them a little differently and will show how you can grunge up these ribbons to use in mixed media projects. First I'll share this birthday card I made for my sister followed by a wedding layout created earlier this month for Scrapping Everyday Miracles. 

Misted Floral Birthday Card

Tips and Techniques:

Grunged Ribbon ~ The green satin ribbon in the assortment is gorgeous, but not quite the look I was going for with this card, so I used several shades of glimmer mist to darken the color. I deliberately dabbed the ribbon into the excess mist on my craft mat so it would be mottled and distressed. I then dried it with my heat tool. Actually I overheated it, until it pulled and puckered adding another grungy element to my ribbon. Be aware that this does shrink the ribbon. I used an entire yard of ribbon and only had about a 5 to 6 inch piece left after tying this double loop bow. (Yep, it's in my stash to be used on a future project!!) Mixed Media Background ~ I spritzed and dripped several colors of mists and water, over this flower which was stenciled with white opaque flakes using a Prima stencil to create this lovely mixed media background. The base of this background is 140lb water color paper.

Sparkle ~ I dabbed the edges with Glue Gloss and sprinkled on Donna Salazar's Pralines and Cream Fairy Dust Glitter. It is so iridescent and sparkly.

The June RRR Club Assortment is so versatile and I also used the lighter blue satin with metallic silver edges for this wedding layout. 

"Love"

You might be asking yourself, "I don't see the blue ribbon here?" That's because I misted the ribbon to coordinate with my page. I first wove the ribbon into this beautiful plaited piece, then misted with teals and bronze mists. Don't you love how the silver metallic edges resist the mist and shimmer as they capture the light? I used the entire 2 yard length to create this piece, and it was well worth it for this dramatic sweeping ribbon braid across my page to anchor the banner. Patriotic Birthday Card for the Really Reasonable Ribbon May Blog Hop

Just look at the gorgeous ribbons in this month's RRR Ribbon Club Assortment! They are perfect to create projects for those Memorial Day and 4th of July family get togethers. My dad is a proud Air Force veteran, so I selected several ribbons from this collection to feature on the birthday card I created for him. 

"Patriotic Birthday Card"

Tips and Techniques:

Ribbon Star ~ I wanted to go with a vintage, masculine look for this card, so I colored the white patriotic dot grosgrain from the May Ribbon Club Assortment with distress inks. I folded it into a partial Moravian Star design to create a wonderful masculine center for my twine flower. 

Layered Flower ~ The base of this flower was cut from denim using my Donna Salazar Grand Peony dies by Spellbinders. Next I created a loomed twine flower with RRR Natural Jute String. My twine flower tutorial can be found here. And of course on top is the ribbon star I created with the RRR May Ribbon Club Assortment. 

Title ~ I fussy cut the title mat from BoBunny Liberty Cut Outs. The letters were cut using my Tim Holtz Typeset strip die. I colored some speckled cardstock to coordinate with the BoBunny Liberty Collection papers used to created this card. 

Stamping ~ The flourish next to the twine and ribbon flower was stamped with a BoBunny Liberty stamp with distress inks. 

Ribbon Strip ~ To achieve a more vintage feel, I layered the red swiss dot grosgrain from the May Ribbon Club Assortment behind the sheer portion of the blue ribbon also found in the May Assortment.   I added this vintage BoBunny flag trinket over the layered ribbons. Every project needs a little bling and the iridescent stitching on the blue ribbon adds that nice touch without looking "girly."

Distressing ~ I distressed the paper layers with my Donna Salazar Distrezz-It-All by Zutter.

The May RRR Club Assortment is so versatile and can also be used for more elegant projects as well. I used two of the red ribbons and white lace here in this wedding layout posted earlier this month of our sweet daughter-in-law, Rachel and her maid of honor. The red ribbon was an absolutely perfect match to the red in the dresses with the lace being a perfect accent for a wedding page.
