Welcome back to my creative space.
I've been busy traveling to India and with Christmas activities, so it has been a couple months since I've posted a project.
I had an amazing time teaching Master Classes for Itsy Bitsy's Creativity Carnival in December. Rashmi and Harish have a wonderful company with quality products. I simply adored working with their gorgeous Little Birdie Crafts products to create projects for my classes.
The Creativity Carnival was fabulous. The open air venue was gorgeous and the event attracted 20,000 people for the two day event. An amazing feat for the first ever Carnival celebrating 10 years since they opened their first Itsy Bitsy Craft Store.
Since my trip, I've been busy with Christmas activities and planning a baby shower for our daughter, Elizabeth, who is expecting their first child. Dominic is due to arrive in March. We are so excited for the birth of our first grandson who will be joining our sweet granddaughter, Avery, who will be two in February. (Our son and beautiful daughter-in-law's girl.)
I created a quick card last week that I wanted to share with you. A young man we know is moving out of state and his friends had a going away party for him. I snuck in some time one morning to create a quick card for him. I grabbed my 49 and Market Vintage Artistry 6x6" Paper Pack, loads of Prima Finnabair products and embellishments, and some flea market finds to create the card. I hope you like it.
Tips and Techniques
I just adore creating masculine cards and wanted to keep with a color palette that a guy would enjoy. Finnabair's rust pastes added just the right color with the metal gears and embellishments. I also added some Turquoise Rust Effects Paste from the Northern Lights Set for a patina effect. The rust pastes are primarily used on the molded wings which I brushed with black gesso first. I used the rust pastes directly on the metal elements. While the paste was still wet, I misted it with water so it would flow down onto the background paper and look like the elements had rusted in place. I just adore this effect. Once dry, I lightly rubbed the wings and steampunk blade piece with Aged Brass Metallique Wax to highlight the texture.
I added some water to the stencil brush I used for the rust paste and added a bit of color around the edges of the paper.
The background paper was brushed with clear gesso to help reduce warping, then stenciled with Finnabair's gorgeous Manuscript Stencil using her White Gold Icing Paste. I just bought the Icing Pastes and this is the first time I have had a chance to work with these luscious, shimmery pastes. They are so rich and creamy, a real delight to create with.
I used a soft brush to add just a little Aged Brass Wax to the light bulb so it looks like it is glowing.
Black microbeads are added for grungy texture. I thought this Quote Chip from Tim Holtz was just perfect for the occasion. I added some of the watered down rust pastes to color.
