"Spread Your Wings and Fly" Mixed Media Card for ScrapBerry's

Welcome back to my creative space! Today I have a card to share with you that I created with the gorgeous ScrapBerry's Juliet paper collection. I adore how this collection lends itself perfectly to combining a shabby chic style with touches of mixed media.

It's also time for the new March/April ScrapBerry's challenge. The theme is Spring and is open to anyone is the world using ScrapBerry's products. Hop on over the the ScrapBerry's blog HERE for all the details and to be inspired by projects the talented design team has created.

FTC Disclosure: I am currently working as a freelance designer for ScrapBerry's. While I am compensated in product, I maintain the freedom as an independent designer to say what I truly think of these products and will not recommend something that I don’t personally use and enjoy.

Tips and Techniques
The focal point of this sweet card is fabulous ScrapBerry's Flowers. I lightly dry brushed them with white gesso to soften the color.

I'm trying to use something "old" that's been hanging around my studio for a while (as in years and years) on each project I make. Yes, we all have those treasures in our stash. I picked up a bargain sale pearl and beaded lace cuff several years ago that I thought I'd figure out how to use in my paper crafting. I finally cut it up and tucked pieces into the edges of the cluster. Now, I know you most likely don't have a fancy cuff laying around, but any kind of lace, pearls and beads will get the same effect. Be sure to watch for more bits and pieces of this cuff in future projects.

Several strips are cut from papers in the lovely Juliet collection with the tops and bottoms torn off to place under the flower cluster on the right side of the card for texture. The ScrapBerry's Butterflies Wings clear stamp set is used for the sentiment, "Spread your wings and fly," and I just couldn't resist tucking in a sweet white feather.

The text image from the same set is stamped randomly across the card. I die cut a doily from Juliet paper to tuck beneath the cluster. For visual texture, color mist is spattered across the background.

I simply adore ScrapBerry's polymer and resin pieces. This sweet rose is from the Colorful Dreams Set. I brushed the piece with white gesso, then spritzed with color mist, and dabbed lightly with brown Distress Ink. Don't you just adore how the color settled down into the crevices? I applied molding paste with two different stencils in layers diagonally across the card and spritzed with color mist and water to highlight the texture. I also scattered a mix of gold microbeads and clear mini marbles around the cluster.

**Tip**
Water based color mediums do not adhere well to polymer or resin. A quick coat of
white gesso that has dried allows the color to cling to the piece.
