"Best Day Ever" by Tracey Sabella for Donna Salazar

I'm have a Donna Salazar Design Team project to share with you today. I just adore Mistra's October Sketch-n-Color using some of Donna's signature colors. I thought they would be perfect for a guy page. This a wedding photo of our son-in-law, Andrew, with his groomsmen. I printed the photo in sepia to tie into the honey background.

This layout has a bit more "white space" than usual for me, but I adore the way it turned out. Below I share the details on my happy accident that created the crackled drips. In addition to Donna's Mix'd Media Inx, I've featured her Spellbinder's Sprightly Sprockets dies and Zutter Distrezz-it-All. Sketch details can be found HERE.
"The Best Day Ever"

Tips and Techniques
I cut/embossed these gears from grey cardstock using Donna's Spellbinders Sprightly Sprockets dies. I rubbed them with her Clearsnap Stormy and Patina Mix'd Media Inx, then rubbed very lightly with metallic patina paint.

Here's another view of the gears. I distressed the paper strips behind the photo and gears with Donna's Zutter Distrezz-it-All.

I use a lot of mixed media these days, so I have been brushing all of my background paper with clear gesso. Donna does some cool misting techniques using Beacon Fast Finish Decoupage medium, and I adore the way the color moves on it. So once the gesso was dry I brushed on two coats of Fast Finish Decoupage. When it was nearly dry, I put small dabs of reinker in the three featured colors across the page just above where the top paper strip would cover them. I spritzed the color dabs with water and tapped the page lightly to achieve the drips. To my surprise, where it was the wettest, the decoupage medium raised up to form this amazing crackle texture. It was quite soft, so I was careful not to touch it (and ruin the crackle effect) until I had heat set it to dry. You could also set it aside to air dry, but I'm too impatient for that!! :-)

I created grey molding paste by rubbing my Stormy Mixed Media Inx pad onto my craft mat several times, then I put a palette knife full of molding paste onto the colored spot on my mat and mixed the inx into the molding paste. I stenciled this fab light bulb (from fellow design team member DeeDee's Um Wow Store). After the molding paste had dried, I dry brushed metallic paint across at an angle.

I hope you've been inspired to get inky with Donna's Mix'd Media Inx on your next project!
